How reliable were they? I've broken two SDM masts and one RDM, but the RDM had a visible manufacturing defect from not sitting right in the mold/mandrel.

I now have SLAKE MDMs mid diameter 430 and up - best of all worlds!

Going back to sdm for short masts (430 and shorter) does not make sense. Yes, the bend curve for foiling sails is typically less, but you can get the same bend performance from rdm masts nowadays. And we know about rdm's superior durability.

Even at 460, a good rdm works well. My 5-batten Flyer 7.0 works great with a Nolimitz FAST 460 rdm.

From 490 and up, we are pretty much stuck with sdm.

Well I can break most things. Here's a Severne 460 RDM Red that didn't make it through a catapult. The sail was a 7m Foilglide 2.I've given up on red rdm. Unfortunately, an RDM power xt mast extension isn't strong enough for the slake mdm mast.

Yeah I'm wary of 100% carbon masts in general. I've got one (but very small size so likely won't get as much use?), and most other in the 90% range now, except for a GT 80% SDM 490 which I (naively?) trust a little more. The 460 hookipa 91% has taken a lot of my newbie abuse, as also the severne blue 400. I've broken two 530 Apexes

I have been using an ezzy curve GT 60% RDM for my freeks and my legacy (came packaged with my legacy 5.8), and it's taken a lot of abuse as well but I also notice the low carbon % when I'm running the 6.6 goya because it feels different compared to my other masts.

Agree that full carbon masts feels much livelier than glass carbon mix. I love the lightness of Severne rigs & the sails are brilliant out of the box, but after breaking numerous masts & some sails (mostly in crashes, which is my fault) I've switched to a slightly heavier & certainly more expensive brand. See how it goes, given both brands masts are made by Italica.
