I like the area this one is forming in

www.bom.gov.au/australia/charts/4day_col.shtml

If there's another front behind that one to the south it could get really interesting.

It's where it is that gives it potential Sparki, most of them form further N-NE and hit landfall upwards of NW Cape which means the system peters out over land.

If it stays over water and makes it around the Cape it can feed off the warm water and grow and intensify. And if you have a strong front to the south they can feed off each other and then you get a serious storm.

At worst if it continues to run down the coast like that it'll produce a one or two day wonder like the systems we had last year. Smaller, longer period NW swell if it stays out to sea or a thumping, short period N-NW swell if it does a Bianca and runs right along the coast.

Then it's just a matter of finding somewhere where the swell and offshore winds coincide.

Looking at what is going on in the other side of the Indian Ocean, I'd reckon we'll have more fronts on the way across too.

Its a weird situation for a surfer with cyclones. You feel guilty knowing the distruction they cause but full of hope that the will spin off some swell.

I have a bit of a theory about cylcones in WA. Unless they come right down the coast we dont get direct swell but the intense low in the north can pull the southerly storms higher up throwing some swell our way rather than passing us by which is typical in summer.

Indirect rather than an east coast style direct benefit

The direction is everything, will get into places that need 2-3m+ SW swell to break.

Don't know about bumper surf but it has made it nice & hot & sticky. A few drops of rain but hardly any wind. A good Northerly Swell brings a different wave to town. It cleans all the banks up too. Fingers crossed we will see some action.

Off to look at ocean now.

The direction that it spins makes it such a small window of swell.

Compare it to east coast where it flings swell into coast for days on end.

First hour in water. Crazy dry sand wedge running for about 40 metres but sorry to have sinned as it can only be ridden laying down.

Definite north swell and novelty spots that like north swell now the go.

3 pm kids pick up and then back in water.

certain parts of the northern beaches were producing some great peaks. whats even more amazing is that the wind wasnt great (a bit earlier), but the waves were still holding some shape. now it looks like the point is churning out some pretty sweet wedges (from the cam, that is). saw some waves barrel in a way that is rarely seen by perth.
