The 1st groyne at sorrento useta go off wen the seabreeze would whip up a dredgie little wedge off the groyne and a peak in the middle, the 3rd groyne would deliver a much longer ride but needed the SW to be much stronger. Then wen the marina sth wall was built "woofskis" and the "bay of plenty" would deliver a fun wave in big swells and provide clean conditions in NW swell storms.
Sat on 1st groyne many a day with Nick Black waiting for the breeze to hit, mindsurfing the little bumps until they became surfable. Even got mentions on the radio surf report then the CityBeach crew isuued a challenge!!!

Things were always bigger and better back when we were groms, sorrento WA who would of thought as a surf spot!!!!! Especially the wanna be pros from perth who like an earlier post said never go anywhere, so why do the "sponsored" surfers in perth think they are the bomb???? I'm gonna try to go in the king of the point this year ( work permitting)and no one will know me,no one will talk to me down there and heaven forbid if I get through my heat, those guys will be beside themselves and won't know what to do, I could go on and on but it just stresses me out so I think ill move over east, where the worst days there are better than the best days here and the sponno guys are pro's

Given how fussy people seem to be re: waves (myself included) I cannot imagine anyone surfing Sorrento Groynes anymore. Yes, despite being 4 foot nothing and 40 kg and frothing at anything, there used to be waves there. I can confidently say this because there were guys a lot older and bigger/heavier who would surf there and get a fun wave post work.

As has been mentioned before in this forum, the waves north of Trigg have apparently become way more fickle in the past 20 years. I haven't surfed at Trigg/Scarborough since 1998 so I probably cannot really comment. I do know that the reason I stopped surfing there was because the number of good days seemed to drop dramatically, like really dramatically, and the breaks to the north seemed to become almost non-existent. Months on end of close outs, even post winter storms seemed to produce decent banks for a shorter period of time before the dreaded straighthanders came back.

Does Trigg Point even break out the back off the reef anymore and occassionally link up with the right bank at 1st carpark when well overhead?

Yes, it does. It was doing so yesterday occasionally and the swell was near on flat. Only problem was the tip of it was surging rather than cleanly breaking and it would be fat enough in between that only a tank of a board (SUP) could ride it all the way in. Seems very tide dependent.

Ive come to the conclusion that Perth sponsered surfers live in their own little bubble, today surfing a little kids novelty wave at sorrento 3rd groin with a crowd of 6, one guy with his stickers proudly displayed was the biggest donkey in the water, he dropped in on me on an ok wave (for the place) and i said nothing, didnt really even care! later on i was out further than said "spono" TOP PRO and took off and he was just inside of me and took off too but got up just after me i pulled off and said sorry, he said "no your not" with an attitude so i told him i was only doing what he did to me earlier, he said something back which i didnt hear but i told him we're not surfing for sheep stations mate, and paddled off. Why do Perth surfers, as soon as they get a sticker on their board, get a big chip on their shoulder Tony Farris is another prime example, and if i knew this guys name i would print it (i will soon). Guys its Perth for f&*% sake, "Why so serious"tm, (tshirts coming soon)(watch your local coffe shop!) And its a kids wave, novelty wave for a bit of fun after work (key word FUN)

And why the fark would a "professional" surf at Sorrento groin thirds ?

Please !
