What over seas sites would be best for a good deal.
I like to support local but to be honest have not been very happy with all the varying reports i've got from local retailers. They all seem to like the ones they have only in stock.

Are there any good local shops you'd suggest. I havn't surfed in a wettie for 20 years. I always figured if it was that cold i would stay home, but getting back into it now.

JBshack

I'm also looking around for a winter wettie... so far the best range I have found is at the Surf Board Room in Scarborough. Not cheap tho'

The best rack of 'last season' stock I have found so far is at Cruel Sea at Wangara...opp the markets. Plenty of XL and XXL.

I surfed a Springy yesterday and was fine - the guy next to me in the Steamer said he was too hot! There were two blokes in short arm Rashies and boardshorts Not bad for late May!

Haha i must be getting old. I surfed Sunday as well and yeah i certainly wasn't hot or cold. The water was nice. ( in the wettie) . Good part was i also grabbed a Steamer for my 7 year old so he managed to stick it out for nearly one and a half hours in the water. He eventually just got bored and tied first so had to call it early.

Which website did you buy from??

Isn't it crazy how much cheaper you can buy a wetsuit from overseas than here....... Whats the general concensus about doing that?

I've bought my last couple of suits from US and they are less than half the price than here. Last e-bomb I bought cost me $240 Aussie delivered to my door and it was in the shop for $580. Sure warranty can become an issue but at that price who cares.

I'm all into supporting the local business comunity and Australian businesses in general, but I cant help but feel that there is someone out there making a lot more money than they should/need to. (bet you its not the shop owner either!)

I honestly struggled to find them online that much cheaper. To be fair i was after spending under $200 and found that most online you could get for around $150 ish.

Worked out the size i needed and rang around to see who had what on special and in stock. As i said i picked up mine Dawn Patrol for $165 (also got my little guy a kids size 8 for $100) . I have seen that same suit in other shops still for $329. One i asked them what was the bestestest est ever price for it (just to be curious ) and they said $289.
I got mine from the second shop i called and they were only in Wangarra and I'm only in Joondalup so i didn't have to cross the great divide for it

Maybe the better suits there maybe more of a discount or maybe my online skills are just too rusty...

Im thinking US Ebay?

Most online surf shops in the states won't post billabong and ripcurl wetties overseas as they're not allowed too.

Are west suits still in business?
They were about the only wetsuit that fitted me
If they go I got problems.?
For Perth I found 3/2 glued and blind stitched long arm steameris the go, as long as it fits
It's starting to get chilly

This is where i go my suit from. These guys are dead set legends. Great customer service via email.

its amazing you can get stuff shipped from an oregan shop at 25% less than the local surf shops. I know it saves 10% gst, but where's the rest? rent and profit
this is the same for so many items under $1,000

eg bike clipless pedals - perth bike shop $126
internet from pommie land $66 for exactly the same thing (incl postage)

rip curl tidemaster watch - perth surf shop $499
internet - oregan $399 edit $438

wetsuits need to be tried on, if you dont know your size.

If you get a close out sale wetsuite (summer over there remember), for $313 after shipping, same in shops for $569 - thats 45% cheaper! I actually called them up and chatted (always do before buying off net) - mat was a great help.

Again if we don't support retail here - then no gear to demo, try on, experiment etc. But the price difference for a bloke with two kids and a mortgage can't be ignored. I do feel bad as the local guy is a great person and runs a good shop, but the extra money is paying for my daughter and son to get swimming lessons so she can eventually surf with me!!

Yeh my dad bought some continental bike tyres for 30 bucks, $130 for same here. Got crew I know in retail, really hurting at the moment due to this, and yet when they buy office equipement, they do exactly the same - too expensive local.

Maybe the retail market is just not sustainable in a global economic community?

FYI - Cruel Sea in Wangara still have a few last season wetties going for $150 - $189 (just picked up a Billabong 3x2 back zip Foil for $189 - normally $249).

...first time in 30yrs that I've bought a long arm wettie - must be getting soft!!

BTW - Do you guys/gals bother wearing a rashie under the new model steamers... there's no seams under the arms or around the neck, and it feels pretty good on... just wondering???
