Seems to be a lot of news around about K.S. vs Webber and with one already in construction. Whats your views? Would you surf one?

I can understand how it can help with the masses and even inner country town groms who can never get to the beach but it feels so artificial to me to be honest. Part of surfing for me is that drive to the beach, the anticipation and taking the piss out of mates in the car before running down the dunes.

Surfing at it's roots is enjoying the peace of sitting in the ocean as you bob up and down until a lump forms in the horizon and off you go. Great for de-stressing. Don't know if you could do that in a line with rails holding onto your board waiting for your turn or a machine to start itself. At least if it builds momentum, the crowds will lessen? I'd much prefer relaxing in the ocean with closeouts than another commercialized method of making money.

I think they'd be so busy its not funny, but I'd love to surf one.

WA might get one by our next bicentennial.

plus you could go for a surf at any time day or night (as long as it's open)

id love a good 9-10pm surf after work when you have to work late

You'd be mad no to have a crack in a wave pool especially if they turn out anywhere near as mechanical and perfect as planned.

Hell yes! Would be interested to see how they handle the crowds though, that pus one in KL ends up with a bunch of people party waving. I try to always make the trip to the flowbarrel at Sentosa if I'm passing through Singapore, that thing is serious fun, and have scored a few hour long sessions with no one on it.

True, I do like my own boards tho plus I have a van so it would be cool even to keep an old board at work

As long as they're not those Webber SLX Thai Popouts - if so they'll end up splashing more cash repairing their HIRE boards than maintaining the wave pool.

Defo M7s for him. My last board before I screwed by back was a Gunther Rohan
6,2 x 18 1/2 x 2 1/4 and I was was just on 80kgs, was such a good board but after my op I just couldnt paddle it as I put on a few kgs. I used M5s on that and they held very well. I miss that board

If you are Kelly Slater - otherwise you will probably be ok

That's so good. According to the article this will solve the over crowding factor at GC beaches

I was going through some really old surf mags on the weekend and i have a edition of Waves that had a write up about a surfing comp held in a wave pool. Mag was from late 80's early 90's so there not entirely new, but surprisingly better waves

Just saw this page on facebook, wave pool for scarbrough? Someones interested to put it to the council. As unlikely as it seems, at least people are talking about it...

Given the cost to design, build and run these things, I (sadly) don't see it happening in Western Australia; other than some mining company helping fund one in an outback mining town as a way of appeasing the depressed FIFO workers

Whilst I certainly wouldn't expect to notice a difference, I can imagine the way your board sits on the water would be different. I recall hearing about guys surfing the waves in the Amazon river having boards custom designed for 'fresh'water surfing.
Maybe it's just a load of wank though.

re: river boards, probably more to do with paddling then the actual riding - similar to how distance swimmers often train with added buoyancy toys in pools, but cruise fine in the ocean

great idea..id definetely go. good for practising as well
