There is aloha surf opening in Joondalup soon it is more of a stationary river type wave but will definateley be having a go on it, it looks quite credible..
it is true however that thee real jewel of the crown would be the proposed big one with "real waves" I don't know why people are fighting it. If you live near it it would increase your property value considerably .....I hope it gets built

A wave pool in Applecross is about as likely as a coal mine in Cottesloe... I hope I'm wrong though

Really??? Based on what ? Have a look at property prices around sporting venues the world over relative to others not so close. It's not fun for all.

maybe if it was KS pool and you wanted to rent it out on Airbnb you would be cheering. Most folks would not be.

It passed on a majority vote last night. Apparently, still requires a final vote on lease details once the CoM CEO drafts it up and puts it to the Council.

Then it's off to a raft of departmental assessments and hopefully, approvals.

One step closer.

The Joondalup one is from the American Wave Company. The owner is wanting to have another south of the river also, he did tell me but i cant remember were sorry..

Really??? Based on what ? Have a look at property prices around sporting venues the world over relative to others not so close. It's not fun for all.

It's more due to the wave access than the sporting venue . Look at property prices near good waves.
perths best wave and this is sad to say but it's trigg, compare the house prices on the coast section to every other section of coast and it adds value, I don't know about over East so much but I'd think a house in front of snapper or the pass would fetch a bit more than a ****ty little back beach with no banks.
i know it's a man made wave but for Perthians it will be the best metro wave .
i for one will scramble to get a wave once it's opened
I am hoping they run it early and late so you can go have a surf at 9 or 10 at night in summer when all the little grommets have school the next day or perhaps hire it out between 10-20 crew for the evening.
the wetlands that are being disputed have being built over all up and down the river, and the wave park proposal will not destroy the remaining wetlands in the area

Anyone have any details on how many waves an hour this proposal will generate?
I imagine it has to be an almost constant to be economical.
I've heard that the Kelly Slater pool in California at 100% only generates a wave every 10 minutes.( Not sure how true that is)
In an 8 hour day that's 48 waves. $ cost per wave starts looking scary I imagine.
Would love to hear more detail on the park proposed for Melville.

Maybe they are counting the peak as 2 waves (right & left) then the reforms as another opportunity for a learner to catch the reforms that look like they have in closer.

If you had a wave every 3.5 seconds Buster Fin is right, it would be a slop fest washing machine

I've been reminiscing about everything happening at @KSWaveCo and Surf Ranch over the last year and a half. 110 miles from the coast, who would have thought we'd have the wave we have? It's been such a humbling and exciting experience bringing this wave to life with my team and receiving the overwhelming support from the surf community all over the world. The sheer number of people I talk to about it on a daily basis is unbelievable. I know everyone is wondering what's next for the Surf Ranch, and there's been a few rumors floating around, so I thought I would send out an update. This prototype system in Lemoore was created to prove out the fundamental concept of the design and technology, our version 1.0. That wave blew my mind, but I also immediately saw ways we could improve it. We got right to work in the lab. The feedback we received from dozens of surfers (not only CT level) was incredibly helpful. And a few months ago we did what obsessive people do: we took something great and took it apart to create something even better. This will mean more waves, more sections and the goofy footers might be pretty excited too. Also, I can't say officially, but there's some exciting projects on the horizon and I look forward to sharing more with you as the year unfolds

Sorry didn't see this. Yeah I agree - surf spots everywhere lead the charge in terms of property prices - I was just saying that in terms of a man made venue like a huge attraction park its not like that. Maybe a surf pool will be a touch different - but not massively so. People will be happy to drive 10 to 20 mins to access a pool. But those that want to go for a nice walk after work and enjoy the sunset will not be heading down to the local pool to do so and paying a huge premium to do so. Its a different beast. Walking along the broadwalk of a lovely beach is a whole other world. Good / great golf courses have a strong track record in terms of relative property growth in many locations - not so good ones the complete opposite. It seems to me like this wave pool is going to be closer to good than great sadly. I know a few people who work on the wavepool in Wales.....doesn't sound like the romantic notion one would wish.

I would love to be wrong and that this wavepool is a ripper of a success. But my doubts are strong. I really look forward to being able to play in a decent one at some point going forward. I reckon we will get there. I hope you guys get what you desire. I just can not see it happening - just yet.

There's one flaw in your argument ted - I can understand if you couldn't be bothered with a wave pool but your local is lakey peak...what about if your local was trigg point would that change things for ya? ????

Yeah, i saw that. I think the mechanism just pushes a large amount of water but doesn't actually extend out as far as the wave which allows the guy to stand there..

just bring it, what ever it is. Its one step closer to something great .

Maybe the mechanism just contains the energy as the wave moves down the pool more like a vertical wall on a track,the waves already been generated at the start and breaking due to bottom contours I'll have to get out my Lego and do a model simulation

from my probing journalism they confirmed the 1000 wave an hour deal and also one has been built in Spain called the cove, I than quizzed them for footage which they said will be released in the next month, a few pros have been there but they all had to sign non disclosure statements till the announcement/video release apparently it can be a little unpredictable like the ocean but close to perfect 18 second rides.

than my journalism changed to only benefit myself I asked how long to build the place and they stated a little over 12 months + commissioning, my response to that was thank you for the invite and I am free for commissioning, they did not actually invite me to commissioning not do they know me or not an I affiliated however after extracting all the above info I felt like I should be there.

There was no response to my acceptance and thank you for the imaginary invitation to commission the wave pool. Anyway that's what I know, I am however going to keep requesting updates and info till they either let me commission , send me to Spain to test the existing one or apply for a restraining order, preferably all three.

anyway I feel like I did some good detective work and thank you all in advance for letting me have a wave for the above information.
(I am sure most is common knowledge but some was news too me)

anyway this is early days of operation wave pool information extraction and will keep up posted

(if anyone knows anyone at urban surf please share this post with them to highlight the reach of my testicles I mean tentacles.)

Hey job nah it's not the same as wavegarden tech.

dont know the mechanics behind it but from wave frequency I doubt it is a chain pull type arrangement such as existing.

as a Mechanical engineer the only way i think ( and this is a sketchy statement) it could work on that frequency would be via a pulse set up either the floor moves up/down or the back wall??????????

when waves travel through the ocean the water itself doesn't move its more like when you grab a rope and flick it up and down and see the high point of each flick travelling down the rope.

i could be completely wrong but it is the only way I can see it pumping out waves at size and frequency consistently.

the below link goes to ocean waves, a lot of it everyone will know however for me the part where it discusses wave form seems to be the key to unlocking the mechanics behind it. Obviously in a pool environment the wind will not enable swell to be built so the part where it is wave form has to be artificially created to create the "pulse" the moving floor theory for me is the most likely however there are other possibilities, simple frequency would work however this would not be bearable to listen too..... Unless of course the changed the hertz......

Looks fun...think they should have like shade cloth set up kinda resembling golf practice ranges you see in Japanese cities coz the location is very susceptible to typical summer winds when you would need it the most.

Also think setting up to combat the place getting messy due to backwash would be the easiest part of the project. Just a matter of dispersing wave energy on the sides. The greatest obstacle to that will be trying to make a combined use for the wave park as in waves for the surfers & an atttactive safe beach to maximise revenue to pay for it all. Something like an inside reef covered with kelp like material which also acts as a buffer to separate swimmers & surfers. Maybe incorporate it into an intake filter system which also helps drain wave energy.



The picture in Arts link kinda has a smaller version of it which they would be using for restaurants & stuff. But it is on the wrong side to block what would be the onshore wind for those waves.
