you just have the wrong board. just had a great session on my 5'10 quad softech. mushy waves, but the board drove straight through the flat sections

I missed a lot of it through travelling, but all my mates reckon it has been a shocker. I got back Jan 8 and have had waves, but nothing to really froth me. Pretty small for the most part. And everyone has bemoaned the southerly air flow with few true offshores.

We spend our whole life living with eastern staters who think australia ends at the great dividing range, get one thread with 6 posts about our state going, and then whinging starts?

It's just not fair.

Yep, Metro has sure been average. Lots of days with S/SW winds and lacklustre swell. When we have had a bit of a groundswell come through the banks at the beachies are non existent, and there hasn't really been enough consistent swell to get the reefies moving.

Then there are the crowds. I've never seen so many people in the water! Surfing is huge business these days, and as its popularity grows, no doubt the crowds will too.

I have still scored this summer, but have had to travel well out of town to do so.

I agree, I swear I hear this every summer. Do all the metro surfers forget that Perth has only two banks from November to March. One at TP and then one that runs from seconds all the way down to Floreat groin parallel with the shore.
I reckon this has been a stock standard summer.

My Sweet Potato has made mine enjoyable but the crowds are starting to piss me off

Luckily my last two surfs have not topped 5 people.

Nice barrels but it's so small and gutless. Where's the juice? Guess it was off shore at least. Snapper must have been good that day too?

And fair call, we are whinging.

This has been the worst summer i can remember for Vic east coast beaches. Not for swell but wind & banks.

Been doing a few trips down to the Island but not much better.

Maybe time for the West Oz capital to invest some $ into a few well shaped, well built groynes to create wedges (like old pyramids before it was changed a coupla decades ago). When you consider the amount of cash that is poured into your average sports grounds annually the wedge idea (a permanent fixture) is prob good value for money over time.

Or stop grooming the beaches and allow a natural profile to return so the banks return to what they were like 25 years ago. The beaches will be smaller but the waves way better. The width of the beach now is ridiculous

Yes - Trigg is as wide as I have ever seen it - and the banks straighter than it has been in the 30+ years I have surfed it!

I will be joining the hoards travelling this weekend...

Nooooooooo nooooooo nooooooooooo!!!!!!! I had forgotten it was a long weekend and was looking forward to some waves and now it is going to be war with half of Perth heading down.

Comp head on? Check!
Bigger board than Perth boys? Check!
Wave identified with tricky lineup? Check!
Close second option with gnarly takeoff that Perth boards don't work on? Check!
Ring a few mates to pack the peak on Option A? Check!

Righto. I am ready. Bring it on ya mongrels.

Yeah I travel all the time to get good empty waves... like 10 minutes!!! Suckers!!!
Leave your little tooth picks at home coz it gets real when boards are 9 foot plus!
Windsurfing helps ease the pain too.
School holidays and weekends I don't do. Leave it for the desperado's that have to travel a 6 hour round trip, pay for expensive petrol and pay for accomodation hahaha
The truth hurts

20 days a year the Goldie breaks 4 foot. I don't bother if it's not 4 foot.
