I've ridden a smoothstar and found them super fun. Especially if you want that ecentuated carving feeling (there is only so much you can loosen your trucks on a standard).
I've not ridden them in a park nor have i bombed hills on one. But just carving on flats is fun and along the path.
You can speed weave to get momentum on them just like on a surfboard. You can do really tight hacks and free the board just like you can in the waves. Round house carves aswell.
I''d recommend them for any surfer whos not much of a skater. PS i cant ollie for ****.
I have skated and own one of the
surfskate.com/ which are 'kind of' similiar in the truck function but not the same thing, in a park and it was 'ok...' weaving and banking of the bowls and quarters but nothing special and a little sketchy due to the narrow front truck. But the weaving and hackability are almost the same as smoothstar but you do need a super smooth surface.
