I have read all the research reports in detail. What people are saying here is not correct and is not what the reports indicated. All reports including the recent South Oz one said shields don't attract sharks in any way.

Each to their own - but I think they are effective in reducing risk. I have tried them on reef sharks and bronzies in the NW and the do work.

I actually wish suba would comment more on the subject, and at 9 posts we are not taking any notice of your numscull commenets at the moment either.

On another approach, a nice big squirt of dish washing detergent into your wettie before a paddle out would seem to ward the critters off... not like I've done any research into it or anything, but seems like a fair action. Sorry if it hurts sales of shields.

I post about things/topic's i enjoy or have a bit of knowledge about. I never said my way is 100% right, but i do believe in what i type. For you to understand fully you'd have to understand a forum. It is for people to post up things and discuss. If you don't like my attitude or opinions that's fine but how about playing the ball and not the person. You may find you'll get more out if that way

Nice bit of banter going on there. The real shark defence is IMO is culling. I spoke to the local member of parliment today and apparently it is a fedral law protecting the beasts. Both state and federal bodies are talking it through as we speak. If you want your voice heard now is the time to speak up and contact your local member for parliment or the minister for fisheries if you want change. Given the strong green sentiment in canberra change may take time. You dont have to be an expert to tell there has been a big change in the shark numbers and behavior over the last few years.
