Yeah yours is a sick board Dripsta I could have easily gone 22 wide. Oggy shapes some really nice looking boards.
Rosie is on the money and has listened to what I want to get out of a big board. My last gun he made for me was 9 x 20 x 3. Good for getting in the zone and carving some serious lines but with my continuous neck and back pain I needed something easier to paddle.
Just like my shortboard at 6'6 x 22 1/4 x 3 with 48 litres it's all about wave count.

I figured that its 4.5 litres bigger than my general use shortboard and Im not the biggest fella.
Anyway I might get a custom later longer again. With luck I may have it tomorrow.

4.5 litres isn't that much. The extra length will help immeasurably.

Yea I guess its not a massive amount but I think it should do the job. That said if I need to bigger I will chat to you about shapers etc later on.

You will love it in the solid stuff. The extra length sort of helps "tip" you in.

Take it out a few times in smaller stuff (obviously not the tiny stuff) too to get used to it. You never want to pull a gun and not feel comfortable paddling around and surfing it. Lots of guys will get a gun, wait till its huge then wonder why the "miracle" board isn't feeling right. I reckon the secret is to sort out your foot placement, weighting and all the little nuances of surfing a board BEFORE its huge. Get that comfortability with it.

Got a spot that is perfect for the test, plenty of paddling

Good advice from Drip there - you definitely need to sacrifice a few surfs with the new board so when its on you are well prepared and feeling confident. Nothing worse when you are not

Yep - been caught out once - that was enough to learn a valuable lesson Nothing worse than wasting great waves and getting smashed ! You need to feel comfortable on your equipment when you are feeling uncomfortable in the ocean

What do you normally go with on the bottom Drip? I saw a nice 7"10" delta the other day but it had a full concave Accross the bottom which made me feel it may catch a bit on lumpy onshore days.

Personally, I think there has to be some sort of vee across the tail. Single concaves are not meant for guns. The board you saw may have been a big small wave board?

My eight footer has a bit of concave (like maybe two mm) of concave in the belly before running to a panel vee through the tail.

With the 9'6" I have a little bit of nose vee - pretty common in big guns to part the chop - into a flat into a slightly rolled vee instead of the panel vee through the tail.

My 7'2" gun has a single concave nose, into flat, into a vee with a double concave through it.

There are lots of different bottoms that work, but reputable, experienced shapers are a must for me when I order a gun. Vee is a tried and proven bottom in all sorts of big wave big boards.

Marty normally does pretty good guns though. A bloke I have a lot of respect for surfs a 6'4", 6'10" and 8' Delta quiver. He goes out on the 8' in 12-15' waves and swears by them.

They aren't my thing rocker or outline wise, but lots of people like them.

Yeah I think your right. The board was second hand good price right dimensions but the bottom looked a bit wrong for me. I ordered a PE should pick it up in 12 months

Tom is doing the two boards I mentioned previously. He does great guns and you won't go wrong with him there. Have you had boards off him before?

Yeah he made me an "8" "6" a few years back. Great beast of a board. Unfortunately I've broken it three times now it's back together but retired to hanging on the fence. I've got an 8"0" but it's a bit thin not a margs board really. Looking at an 8"0" maybe bit bigger 21 wide 3 and a bit thick. Not sure got a good few months to make my mind up. Hoping TOM starts it early next year

Aaah, Beastsurf. I just wanted to be sure you knew the wait times. I have had a bunch of boards off him but stopped years ago when the wait time blew out to six months - there isn't much to complain about there now in hindsight.

Having had one of his boards before you know how forgiving they are on the drop.

Just to depress you, I ordered mine in February last year. He reckons he will be starting it soon.
