Yup.
Happened the other weekend too when SLSWA recommended to close abalone day as their modelling ( and most others) will take the largest period of multiple swells regardless if its of an insignificant size.
This really really made my potatoes boil, I paid for my licence knowing full well that I work most saturdays.
However this particular Saturday I was off.
My initial plan was to get my abs than surf the reef off the boat.
The little swell had gone unnoticed by the masses,,,,,,, until they called abalone day off....... So instead I surfed a reef I surfed last week bigger and alone with 20 other people cause of the swell WARNING, my resultant plan to have abs and uncrowded waves went pear shaped......... I got no abs and three set waves prior to a million boats/people descending.
I went in after three magic waves quite pissed off and I laughed at myself............ what a spoilt little brat...
Anyway today's non event I spent boating.
18 second period of south swell on a south wind tends to walk straight past us, secondary swell needs to be removed from the maths, unless it is travelling at a very different speed in which case it's amplified by a factor of 1.25 dependent on sea state and wind.
sometimes I like to just stop with my scientific equations and go hunter gatherer. Me take board put in boat surf I go....
Please no more talk of cancelling abalone day, I believe I may be having what is referred to a conniption.
