Casually wondering if anyone has seen where the supposed temporary artificial reef might have been placed? No need to reveal its location, but I'd like to know if it's been installed anywhere yet. I haven't heard anything yet and considering it's a 'world first' and the trial was supposedly starting in late September, am curious why I haven't heard any whispers about it yet.

Hopefully this time they put it somewhere with swell, rather than somewhere with money!

Yeah that's the page I was watching Sparki.

The new wave garden is sadly not proving the most reliable. I assume they'll get there but in the short time the teething issues are relentless.

I had a bit to do with getting a council to twice in doing a beach replenishment putting sand in a spit.

Ended up both times getting amazing lettle lefts for the kids. Had some effect for about two months. This is a protected bay so never going to be big.

Perth from Swanbourne onto Trigg I think has amazing potential to be improved by harnessing the lateral sand drift. Do something to impede sand in the right shape and then once this sand trap has filled up let it move on so the shoreline is not impacted.

I was also wondering what impact using a machine on the edge of the water could do to set up a bank.

If you excavated say a decent sized swimming pool amount of sand would the oceans desire to fill in the hole be enough to create that circular rip effect and set up a bank.

Not a bad experiment for a boardriders club to do the day before a comp.

Always thought contos would be a great spot for an artifial reef. Its even got a bit of reef there to help anchor the thing.

Aaah Contos ... the most inconsistent, overrated wave that everyone has a "I saw it ONCE...epic".

It's not a bad idea and there are bits of reef for anchors all the way up the beach.

Hahaha not sure if you saw the entire coast yesterday? Second best metro day of the year (my opinion) and people were getting bigger barrels than that!

Why would anyone attempt to surf that wave on anything less than a SUP...let alone on a bodyboard?

It's not a bad wave when it actually works properly. More shape than your average northern beachie. Just too short a ride to justify paddling all the way out and dealing with crowds that will be on it when it does work for my liking.

yes, it's real. However it's not in the ocean, it's in the Great Salt Lake in Utah. Due to the spiral, the water cannot flow freely and the water in the middle is stagnant and apparently stinks!

Here's the full episode for you Lost, glad to see there's someone else that appreciates intellectual comedy around here, Noel is a bit highbrow for that boat fella.

The jetty may be real, the wave breaking off it is not.

In fact not even sure this picture is real.

Just remember now boys and girls, the grainier a photo is, the greater chance exists that what it portrays is a complete load of krap.

I really think with the littoral sand drift that an artificial kelp bed, shaped as required would sort out a lot of the marginal surf breaks along Perth coast.

could be made out of shade cloth (polyethelene) partly cut into to vertical strips, set in rows, and I think this floats, so anchor it with sand cover over lower section. once it captures some sand drift this helps the anchoring as the depth of sand increases. The height of the sand is made by capturing the sand drift in the kelp bed. Its the sand then making the wave break not the kelp bed.

seems cheap and easier and cheaper to experiment on the shape etc.

A lot of the surf breaks just need some touching up to fix the wave shape and length. and with some existing reef less erosion problems. Im thinking north of triggs. Triggs and scarbourough have a few more issues of erosion so more things to consider.
