I'm pretty fortunate that I go black in the sun and not burnt.......until last weekend. Surfed all morning, went out with the lad on their 666 and droppedd some pots, then went out with the Girl to pick them up while having a mellow cruise....my face is now peeling I got that whacked. So what is the best stuff around? Main thing being to not blind me from dripping into my eyes.
I was thinking zinc,or is there something more high tech that can beat that?
Oh I dont want some anti ageing wank crap that is $50 a surf

Good Topic. I was going to ask the same thing, what do you guys use that wont effect the neoprene and melt a wettie to my neck?

I've never usually worried about sunscreen mostly because I usually surf early morning before the sun is too intense, but since my best mate and surfing buddy just had to have a cancerous melanoma cut out the side of his head, I need to find something (he is only 25 years young)

I used Banana Boat Ultra (black tube) and swear by it... still good after 3hrs in the surf. Does not drip or ruin wetties or smell... and only makes you slightly pale if you double-up and put a heap on. I just wash/rub my hands in the wet sand as I am entering the water so I don't face plant pushing up with slippery hands...

Chrispy, I hear you man. The Invisible zinc as pretty much plain white!

I had to resort to using that brand you posted after Coco Island stopped making their invisible zinc. That stuff was the bomb. If you are lucky enough to find any tubes of it left over on the pharmacy shelf, buy all they got!!!

Apparently it went out of production a couple of months ago, shame it is the best ever sunscreen (Im part ginge, so am an excellent guinea pig)

This stuff is actually shocking. So useless. There is only one zinc we use in tassie and it is really thick and a pain to get off but it will stay on all day, doesn't run and keeps the sun off you. The sun in Tassie really burns too, worse than any where in Australia and even the tropics. That is when it is sunny. Really raw as the ozone is so thin here. Pity I can't remember what it is though. It is like a bronze colour and the packet has aqua/teal writing. There is a white one in it too but as you say, turn out like the joker.

So hot here today in Tassie!

The best sunscreen I have ever used is SolRX.

The best test was to buy 2 jumbo pump packs for my outrigger club. Most people wont wear any for racing as it leeches into your eyes when you sweat. SolRX is the only that these guys have tried that does not.

It's oil free, you put it on and it dissapears. Sometimes you kind of forget where you put it. Lasts for like 6 hours....

My wife and daughter also have super sensitive skin and its been great for them.

A friend used to own it but he sold it, I wont get it cheap anymore but it's the best I've found for sure.

I think the stuff Teacake refers to is Bronzinc. This is available widely in nsw and qld and I use it pretty much daily and have done for years. In a past lifetime I put rooves on houses for a living (dumb idea) - the equation is simple - where you put the zinc you don't get burnt - downside is that if you get in on your flash rashie or t-shirt or cricket whites it is really hard to remove. Falls nicely into the crude but effective category.

this is the only stuff i use.
the product on the left is new in that its 50+
the good thing..if you like a crew-cut or
going thin this stuff can be sprayed on your head
without a mess, only down side you cant spay it
near your eyes..stings like hell..but a brilliant sunblock.
all the others work but can get messy

I have been using this clear gel, it lasts all day IMO and just wipe your hands on a towel a few times and its not slippery as the gel is a quick dry formula, which means it won't drip in your eyes either, I would never go back to any other type of sunscreen now, the only thing I can complain about it is it only comes in 125ml size and smells like a combination of cat piss and bad Russian vodka, but once you get past that and hold your breath whilst applying it to your face its all good!

Try "Cancer Council - Active - Mineral Silica"...
I used this in the Maldives, and I liked it so much that I recommended it to a few other crew... There were 3 of us using it by the end of the trip...

Available at Woolies...

This is the spray packet that I have. It's also available in creams...

The one third from the left is the one we use along with another. Also use the white one.

Never comes off! Bit of a pain going to work looking like a clown though...

Great for someone who surfs 8 - 10 hours in the day!

I've been using the Banana Boat 30+ Sport for over 2 years and I'm very happy with the way it performs up to about 2.5 hours, that's about as long as I would every stay out for.

It was on special so I bought a new one today, even though the old one is still going strong.

That's given me the chance to show you something really ironic.

The one that's been kicking around in the container in the back of my wagon for a couple of years, has been badly knocked about by the UV and it's pure yellow instead of orange

Just a note for those using old sunscreen, it loses its effectiveness after a while, and most has an effective shelf life of two years. Because we use ours on my three sons, we tend to throw it away when it separates or gets older than 12 months. you want to be sure that you are putting on the good stuff. gone to 50+ this year (can't remember the brand) and it seems to stick well, but does sting the eyes when immersed.

For those of who don't burn in 10 minutes flat, 15+ is enough protection. 30+ is more than enough.

Only the pink skinned need 50+!

50+ has extra chemicals added to it... Just keep that in mind too.

Application zones; by priority;
1) Nose (and balding head if applicable! - but wear a hat!)
2) Cheeks, ears, neck, bottom lip.
3) back of hands, and back of calfs (we should have a long sleeve rashie and long boardies to provide significant cover!)
