yesterday arvo I got a horrible phone call from sdr about the passing of someone who i can proudly call my mate.
Macdaddy/ mark McNamara was truly a surfing champion , admired by so many in Australia and from around the world.
His knowledge and passion for surfing is unsurpassed..he was just like a 16yo frothing all the time.

I had only known macdaddy for a few years, but for the time I have known him, well im am truly blessed to have had the chance to have him as a mate.

he is already missed so much by my family and the greater surfing family already.

macca I love you mate and my first wave will always be for you champion.

take care up there

I still feel numb about this too after Chrispy rang and let me know yesterday, I'd only been with Macca last week picking up a board he'd repaired for me, and we'd arranged to catch up for some nose riding lessons once the large swell died down.

Macca was always quick with a big 'Vanderrrrs' anytime we met, he was an absolute champion in the true sense of the word both in his ability as a surfer and as a genuinely good bloke, always quick to pass on tips and encourage people while never expecting anything in return.

He always spoke highly of you Chrispy and often said how much he enjoyed spending time with you and your sense of humour.

A huge loss to the sport, his family, to his mates especially SDR and as an ambassador to Clearwater Surfboards.

RIP buddy and condolences to his family.

Well said to both Vanders and Chrispy,I know you guys were close to Macca and always spoke highly of him.

I received a text from Vanders last night and was shocked and still am.I didn't know Macca that well but overtime
I would see him he had a huge smile and man he was such a smooth surfer.

From what I've read in other media Macca touched so many people with his good vibes he put out.

RIP Macca way too soon way to good to go.

and Vanders Chrispy also thinking of you both at this sad time.

Yes indeed - poorly written. But what I meant he was not an 18 yr old shredder !

Well said LL - I am well over due myself. Thanks for the reminder.

Lacey, I know, I was thinking about you!

So tell us, how do you get a heart check-up, and what do you even ask for!... What's the procedure?...
I guess you see your GP first... But then what?...

doctor first - general checkup then book in for a heart stress test.

the only thing i didn't get six months before hand when i went to see the doctor. he probably didnt think i would have a worry.

sounds like he was a top bloke, what a tragedy to go at 51 with so many good years, good waves and just plain old good times ahead of him.

Although I never met Macca I got a small sense of all the people he influenced when I logged onto FB this morning and Aussie friends of mine who live in Canada were all writing little tributes about how much he touched them in their lives in and out of the water.

cheers for the great posts and messages peoples... surfers really are great bunch of humans.

macca would be a bit embarrassed by the huge amount of attention that he has received...but I know he would be very chuffed

lacey it was far from a hijack, and I think you made a really good point...fellas , if **** don't seem right ,go and get it checked out. we have a world class medical system,so don't be a world class fool and leave it too late.

oh once again I have to post how crap I am at sharing links, but if someone could be kind enough to post the link from pacific longboarder I would be very stoked. the story they did summed macca up perfectly

remember, enjoy the world before it enjoys you

I see there was an article in todays bulletin. worth a read.

greg tilley himself suffered a heart attack months after my episode. I had a bloke on know who rang me to two months ago say he had a heart attack ski paddling up the ck- was asking me about rehab.

we are the lucky ones. have a heart attack out in the water and your chances aren't good

my doctor told me heart attacks are on the rise for men over forty from many different backgrounds fitness levels and lifestyles and they don't quite know why.

guys what have been athletes all there lives are at just as much rise as anyone it seems.

macca will be missed
