Funny to hear your thoughts mac....I'm the opposite. I.loved road trips when I was a grom......now I love them even more. Nothing beats it,not even your LM could come close. Just the whole thing about a roadie rules, even if it's just one night.

I just can't believe you would rather **** around with the.crowds you deal with then drive for another 30 minutes and get waves to yourself, I'm shocked

+1 Chrispy life for us these days is all about doing enough work to keep a roof over our heads, eat good food and get away whenever we can whether its North,South,East or West roll the swags out, crack a stubby and a bottle of wine I have always got a road trip planned in my head whether its north or south camping surfing or west hunting, fishing and fossicking I am not selective about anything some of the best surfs I have had have been turning up to find massive closeout sections, going in with the handplane or one of the kids body boards and getting one second barrels

With the right equipment every day is a good day. I had the 10 footer out today and paddled rings around the shorties and "smaller"mals. One foot waves on a 10 footer equals having a ball while everyone else is sitting on the viewing platform grumbling.

^Yep agree...I usually load up with 2 or 3 boards these days, chosen out of 4. Bigger wave SB, smaller wave SB, LB & 666. Like today I wasn't sure how big it was going to be or where I was going to surf. I ended up surfing 2 different places coz the wind changed before I'd had enough & needed 2 different boards.

I think the best thing to do is don't look for too long. I have a quick look to see how big it is & how many people are out so I can decide on what board I'm taking. If you stand there looking for too long it can sometimes be unmotivating, especially when you get chatting to fussy friends. I've had so many really fun surfs when everyone thinks its **** & I have it to myself. I just tell people I'm going for a bit of a paddle, but I'm actually stoked there's a bit of a wave with no one out. 9 times out of 10 its better than it looks

I should have been selective this arvo. Waves that were good for nothing or any board.

Dam, took time off to jag some waves before the north change.
Oh well

In response to your original post Cobra, I try to go for at least one a day. Being in the city all week makes me froth when I get home, no matter how big I just want to get in the water. Even if I don't surf, just swim or bodysurf it is still awesome fun.

As for the cold mornings, everyday is cold in Tassie anyway so it is not really any different. But sometimes it does deter us.

I try to surf once a day for fitness, help retain paddle fitness and stops me feeling sluggish each surf

Two kids under two (second one is 4 days old), selective doesn't exist any more its when ever I have a spare hour and a half.

I try to get out twice a week so I look at the forecast and try too line up the best days in the schedule but that doesn't always work out.
