Some south coast waves. Plenty of others floating around. The two point breaks only had me and the people I went with. The right hander is really only surfable over three foot, but is absolutely surfable on a lb, the beachies speak for themselves (the bloke on the wave is Speedy - one of the original Cactus boys who lived there pre-Witzig and still surfs well), the left hander probably isn't for a longboard unless small, but it is surfable thigh high (done it on my twinny). The last left is longboardable as well. Indeed, I plan hitting it with mine next time I am there. Enjoy the wave porn.

The amount of time all that pfaff takes could be made up of surfing, fishing, bushwalking, playing pool at the pub, rooting backpackers..... Honestly the youth of today are too tied up in looking the part that they miss out on real life.

As to Esperance, our south Coast has some of the best waves I've ever seen, in summer too. You'll want a very capable 4wd and a huge sense of adventure and not be averse to surfing by yourself. There's a spot near Hopetoun that has the best wedge I've seen live or on film, just nucking futs!! I've watched it a couple of times now and haven't been able to convince myself to paddle out. Perfect and perfectly makeable but so sharky and if you lost your board you'd be up for a 10k plus swim along the cliffs before the next exit point.

Sealed seam wetsuit almost mandatory for most of the year. I get by with a 3/2, mates down there use 4/3. The southern ocean is cold.

One of my regretful misses on the lap last year was not surfing Phillip Island. The waves on the north look like they just smoke on their day. We were only there for a day trip from Cape Paterson. It was freezing and at the Penguins we were one of the few families appropriately clothed. We actually took a layer off.
