I am reliably informed that the Cow Herding & Blue Staffordshire tending is good around 45 minutes north of the goldie ..... might have been Agnes Waters

Bit more than 45 mins Pup, I thought Cobra slithered around Emu Park!
Try Barney Point beach

I liked Micks post, that part about going and staying at a place is the best advice in this thread.
ive seen people fall in love with Agnes water only to move up there and find no work.
or it's too slow/small.
once you get past the goldcoast the surf gradually drys up. We are about to hit our quiet timehere. Basically from rainbow up is five months of only **** onshore surf.
thats why we don't have crowds. But if you look you will find surf up here.
I know of a beach nth of Agnes that continuously gets bigger surf than Agnes.
dont believe me ask the owner of the Agnes surf shop.

haha which part(s) It was my sincere experience of having stayed there mate. Obviously I can't vouch for having fully sussed Qld from a few weeks stay & I left out the part about the trip being an exploratory mission of considering moving over. Work opportunities for both the missus & I quashed that. Really happy where we chose to move, it does get cold, but with the cold comes the swell & less crowds.....must admit one of the comments on footage I took at Kings Beach groyne was, "wow I've lived here 17 years & never seen it that good". So I guess I was there at a good time

But the place seemed nice enough, good bang for buck I thought. Apart from the old saying "Clown Town" I vaguely remember reading in Mark Warren's atlas of Australian surfing. What points made you laugh & where would you recommend in QLD

Fark thought I'd lost all my old Qld footage to a HD failure or something...but I found it & the age of the video (quality/size) uploaded very quick haha...this was King's when I was there, Moffets was a lot bigger...but anyway, was fun I thought

That thing at the start is a surf lifesaving boat

Lacey i gave my advice and said dont do it

And you blokes don't even know how to answer his question, he is retiring

Mick i will take the piss soon,i love you because your a frother though

I lived at kings beach when i first moved to qld and loved the place... for a bit... no surf (yes i did have it awesome a few times) but moved down to the goldy for waves and not to die from boredom or rednecks trying to breed with or kill me

Me i would move far north coast without a doubt

lol Chrispy, back at you bro

I was kinda trying to make a point that you don't spend all your time surfing, I certainly don't...even though I spend more time in the water than most. Weighing everything up is important to deciding on a place to live as opposed to just holidaying at the best time of year for some particular place according to what your chasing. You could have an epic uncrowded Indo surf spot but miss everything else it does not have that you value in your life. I found a place I'm happy everything considered given a lot of points are due to having a large family within 80 mins drive & accessibility to getting away from it all. Remove that from the equation & other places would become viable, I've lived in epic surf locations like Margaret River & Apollo Bay with great surf plus points vs various other things subtracting those points...If I had a spare 600k$ to invest in an investment property. I'd retire earlier & split my time between home & somewhere overseas with trips around Oz as desired. I have a few older friends who either have property over seas or grab a bunch of airline tickets when on special to head off regularly. Thats what I will do when I'm not constrained by when I can go or where I need to be close to work.....Beauty of retirement leaves no constraint to distance from work or having ties making you easily contactable. I would be spending a percentage of time at home base & making sojourns overseas according to desire & financial ability.

There has just been an article in the local Noosa paper about population caps.

This idea has been around for years and looks like it is finally coming to fruition.

in other words if you don't live here now you are out of luck.

I suggest Gold Coast, particularly around Coolhandgatta, Sunshine Coast particularly around Calclowndra, or if anyone is really really adventurous Just addnes Waters.

We thought Caloundra was really nice. We were there in July & the weather was great. There's some awesome reef breaks & heaps of uncrowded sand breaks & nearby beachies. I say sand breaks, coz out in front of the river the waves break way out on sandbanks far from the beach. There's epic mountains up behind the town with lots of fruit & veges for sale straight from the growers on the way there. Its an easy drive to brizzy & noosa is just down the road with heaps of beachies in between. Its a relaxed place with all the shops you need accessed by uncrowded roads.

We stayed in a resort style apartment complex 1 mins walk to Kings Beach with a swimming pool, sauna, gym & tennis courts. Underground parking & good size storage space. Some apartments were for sale & we thought they were great value at $250k to $350k depending on no. of bedrooms & location. Although we considered the body corporate fees a bit high, can't remember how much they were now. But if you used the facilities frequently it would have been good value, I just didn't think I would.

Looking around back then (2009), real estate was quite cheap in Caloundra. The sunshine coast is (or was) great value for places close to the beach unless you were looking at walking distance to the Noosa foreshore.

I'd recommend just taking a few holidays around Queensland & see what area you like the most. We stayed in Byron, Coolangatta, Caloundra & Noosa over 3 weeks & our favourite places were Ballina & Caloundra. We had 3 days left unplanned for the end of our holiday & we spent them in Caloundra.

Thanks bro, I will pass this onto the Mrs. as this is her operation. My only instruction was I need surf.
