I've never owned a spring suites what do you guys think of them and when would you wear one.?

I can't wear steamers because they take the skin off my legs below the knees (Psoriasis) so I only have one choice if I want to surf through winter in Sydney with a 3/2 and that's cut the legs off a perfectly good 3/2 steamer.

Since I don't have the guts to ruin a good steamer, I take the next best option, and that's an O'neil Hammer, Long arms short legs but 2 mm all over.

Not ideal, but if I layer up and man up, I can usually get through a winter with it.

If your steamer is only 2mm, I would look to a springy. I prefer
my 3/2 springy if I can. It's less restrictive because the knees and elbows don't have any rubber on them. I sometimes throw a long sleeve radiator in under the springy to give a little more wind chill or sun protection without the restriction of true neoprene.

Boardies and a rashie are pretty good too.

Queenslander too - love the back-zip long sleeve springy. The top cuts out all the windchill. The water's not that cold. And you don't have to be Harry Farken Houdini to get in and out of it.

I wear a 3/2mm O'Neill Short John when it starts to get cool...it's a Houdini model which I've got used to getting in/out of..
And O'Neill 3/2mm Steamer when it gets colder here (water temp <18) which a radiator rashie under it and never feel the cold....back zip.
Give me a back zip anytime, those over the melon suits are a pain to get out of especially if you have a dodgy shoulder.
Also I wash/rinse in clean water (no polish) after every use and the Steamer is still ok and 7 years old

Well said, Surfbroker. I have a stiff neck and so back zip is the go. I was thinking of changing wetties a while back but i read this thread (and laughed) and decided to get another couple of seasons out of the old suit. (Although I reckon if i lived down south I'd consider the chest entry and just work at getting used to it...)

I still use the chest zip O'Neill - better seal back of the neck I've found , also have a shortie zipless 1.5mm that's not too hard best seal of the lot
have stuck by the P3 only because of the double weld seam & the TB

I had a short john and also got a light long sleeve vest to wear underneath which is pretty much a long arm springy. That worked well because it gives you a number of options.

I've surfed a few winters here in a 2mm jacket and boardies and last year and this I've worn my 2mm steamer, a little too warm so the long sleeve springy should be perfect I hope, easy to get into as a bonus.

Have to say this year its warm. Im a sook and im getting hot in my 2 mm steamer. Mind you they make them pretty dam toasty these days.

One thing i get sick of guys going out in jackets saying how warm its but the only last an hour tops. Because they get f ing cold.

You cant surf properly if your cold.

And this isnt about you mac so keep ya leg on
