IMO there are few individual ideas that shaped the way surfboards are and The rest are just someone's take on something some one has already done.

All shapers pinch bits and pieces from here and there and a good experienced shaper should be able to make nearly anything you ask for so IMO copying by a shaper is ok and part of the industry.

Scanning someone's board by a company and mass producing it is not, the Tak scorpion has gotta be the most knocked off board i have seen.
