Channel Islands stock ? CISurfboards

Might be a few bucks in it for Chrispy.
Maybe we could get one of those dodgy TV lawyers to start a class action for everyone who has ever had a fin chop

Channel Islands demands jury trial, FCS also named in suit

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 January, 2012 : - - Lawyers representing Channel Islands Surfboards are demanding a jury trial in response to a lawsuit filed by California surfer Tom Gregg, who claims he suffered a deep fin gash in his lower right leg while surfing in France more than two years ago.

According to Gregg's complaint, filed on Aug. 24 in Los Angeles Superior Court, the surfboard and fins were defective and "unsafe for their intended use." Specifically, the fin was so sharp it caused muscle, tendon, and nerve damage to such an extent that Gregg was told he'd never regain full muscle strength in that part of his leg. He is suing for general damages, medical care, and lost earnings.

Gregg's lawsuit is also aimed at fin manufacturer FCS. Gregg's lawyer, Jeffrey Karpel, did not respond to repeated requests for comment. Gregg could not be reached for comment.

Channel Islands' response was filed last week in Santa Barbara Superior Court, where the case was transferred in December. In the court documents, Channel Islands denies any wrongdoing, emphasizing that its surfboards are "state of the art" and that surfers who ride them "are knowledgeable and sophisticated users who knew or should have known any dangers associated with use of the product, even in the absence of any warnings."

He will get nowhere with that. Use at your own risk, most boards have it on it. I know CIs always do.

Most CIs come with a big sticker with all the tech ect of the boards, they do have a disclaimer on it from memory. Most will have it on their websites.

well sp its funny you mention this. i am studying WHOS atm and was having a laugh with a teacher not long ago. if you take it to the eeonth(i made that word up) off the law,i actually do have a case against board maker..happy mac(would need a brief to verify that one)in the case they failed in their duty of care in not informing the purchaser of known accidents. doggie if you do not believe me go and read a label of brake fluid for instance,it will warn you that it is harmful to drink..wtf so,because our gene pool is weak does not take the onus off common sense,in law common sense does not exist. so at the end off the day,the company does have to state everything I THINK THIS GUY WILL WIN

"This guy" may even be responsible for "glassed in" warning signs. Lets hope not though....

I'm with Crispy, this guy probably has half a case, even though he shouldn't have a case at all....

I would be tempted to offer "this guy" an out of court settlement with privacy clauses, to try and make the problem go away quickly!

CI has less to do with it than FCS. If anything, the case should be primarily against FCS. Even though the guy should probably cop it on the chin like a man.

People have lost their footing on Everest and died, but as far as I know, they don't sue the crampon manufacturer do they?

By the way, the Santa Barbara Law Courts are lovely sprawling Spanish buildings, with plenty of thermal mass, lovely cool hall ways, and nice grounds. The actual court rooms are a fraction drab though. Sort of 70's / 80's refits, of perhaps 1900's Spanish American Style Buildings...

I know this because when we were in Santa Barbara there was stuff all surf, and we scored a free carpark near the courts, and went and checked them out.
