I don't give a rat's what the shortboarders think.

Given the amount of action in the SB next door its pretty clear that most of them do not give a rat's about anything these days. A shame as I used to enjoy some of their threads and enjoyed participating in the banter. It seems they are dying a slow painful death. Lets hope they can pick it up again to something that at least resembles participation.

Good surfing is good surfing and the pro's are as good a it gets IMO.
Doesn't matter if it's a HP shorty or a guy ripping on a single fin, longboard whatever it's still good surfing to watch, even in comps.

What on earth is this doing in the longboard forum...(a) surfing shouldn't be a competive sport...(b) its the longboard forum...(c) surfing shouldn't be a competive sport.

surfing is art, individually interpretive as such not open to others justification.

Great point!

Yep. That is a great point, Stuk. (Except I'm not sure where that leaves threads about longboard comps? )
I guess i wondered what the longboarders thought about the SB comp and how the judging valued some things over others, I don't give a rat's what the shortboarders think. Glancing down the page I see threads about beer, cricket, driving, NRL, AFL. Maybe the LB room can also work as a place for longboarders to talk to each other about all sorts of stuff that is sometimes part of the daily life of a longboarder.

Yep acknowledge your point, maybe a bit of tiredness, just driven straight through from Brisbane, 9 hours, I still hate the thought of competitive surfing LB , SB or anyB. I guess it is part of the human condition, the drive to succeed over others, it is afterall what has positioned the human race as the pre-eminent predator...just ask the WA premier

Cheers Stuk. I see your point too, and appreciate where you are coming from. I like that comps let us see the best surfers do their thing, but I like the corny old adage that really, the best surfer is the one who has the most fun. And part of me still finds it almost incomprehensible that a comp can tell free surfers to leave an area of ocean that no-one actually holds title over. Meanwhile, they clearly need to put The Pup in charge over in WA. He'd sort the pr!cks out.

ASP has blocked access to the clip posted by SP in this thread but refer to you tube access. They are obviously taking their 'property' rights very seriously.

Just click in the YouTube link and they are all under the asp site on YouTube

Or

You can register with the asp and get heats on demand/ replays

How does a goofy win snapper and beat fanning, taj and parko on the way..

Great effort for a goofy to win it.

Parko got barrels from behind the rock and surfed the waves with variety, flow and some radical carves. Medina surfed further in and did a lot of very critical vertical moves. He seemed more limited in his repertoire to me, but he did surf well. Guess the judges want those big blasts, but it seemed to me that Parko surfed bigger, better waves with far better lines and lots more variation. But I am old school.

Nicely done Junior Mac!! Some nice waves there - annoyed me how often people were paddling for waves whilst a blokes tucked up in the tube. That bank looks amazing now.

Marg River is on today chaps. The chicks are doing battle at the moment after the mens first round. A few upsets with JJF and KS into round 2.

Was it big margies or mid size where they can get a few rights....I don't think the left suits KS surfing too much being a big open face wave and bit fatter than the right....

Some nice ones coming in for the girls. Tyler Wring is giving it a good nudge. They just cut away to the Box and there was a certain KS tucked into the tube whilst holding a GoPro.

All the good action is at the box when its small....hoepfully its gets big......the end section might be a bit fat but you got to have a serious set to take off on the peak when it comes out of that deep water and jacks up right underneath you

yep it does suck. The thing I took out of it was that Slater rides a thruster when he wants to do turns and a quad when its tube time - he also loves epoxy construction when its weak but prefers pu when there is a bit more push. Over the next 10 yrs board construction will dominate.

And that's the wrap
