Sounds like your mate has his head screwed on,I hope he will focus on propriety down the track, but he sounds young and you need to enjoy life before getting tied down.

Even if he sells the off and buys an average car, will still have a bit of money left. I think he is wanting to get into real estate.

Meh, wish I could work flat out, too busy at school. He quit school for work so...

Oldmate, do you use the maths you learnt at uni in your job today? I am studying first year engineering maths this year and am wondering if I will ever use it again after uni...

No offense here Tom, I just got my back up because of false allegations of red thumbing others' opinions & I'd actually written & posted my long reply before I saw your post retracting some of your comments & appologising so my bad there.

As has been said, everyone is entitled to their opinions & they should be welcomed.

Apologies of my earlier comment came across as me saying you'd red thumbed, it was a general comment to the naysayers however I can see it may have come across as being directed at you and for that I also apologise as it wasn't my intention - it was directed at the sleepers who read, thumb and never post.

Yes its lost its way as far as I'm concerned.Sick of the slanderous comments based on fk all knowledge.

You've both lost me with these comments - how so ?

Everyone's on their own trip but it seems as though that's not OK here.

A question for all you with the 'support your local shaper' theorists....

A lot of these guys got into the surfboard shaping business as they didn't want to conform to the 'get a proper job' scenario right ?

Many of them as the years go buy realise it's a hard slog, a lot of them actually lose their spirit to surf and realise it wasn't quite the romantic choice they thought way back when - not all, just some....and I could list a few.

So, they ply their trade, make money from sales, get their house, have families, play golf etc etc and we surfers support them as we like to 'support our local shaper' and that's great but;

Do those same guys come to you and I working 'the other type of job' when they need a plumber, or insurance, or a loan or a coffee etc etc ?

No, they'll ordinarily look for the best deal they can get whether it's imported or local because they are just like the rest of us that have constraints and will look after themselves before you and I - the romance of your notions are beautiful but the facts are that bloke that you are supporting won't often open his wallet or offer you the keys to his house if you end up on struggle street.

(Last time I saw Bob McTavish he drove a Subaru Outback Wagon and not an Australian built Holden and I'm sure he shopped around for the best deal for he and his family as an example without prejudice).

...again each to their own but the bloke asked about a cheap board and what your thoughts were on it - not whether you'd buy it or not based on where it's made - that'd be a different topic IMHO.

this is one that does bug me and agree with sa. local shapers wanting you to support them, but as in my case, if they need a house built or something they will go straight to the cheapest nastiest pop out project builder they can find.

the best part is they want you to give advice and help them if it goes pear shaped.

i say get a local board because you want to. supporting support a local shaper is a con because they most probably wouldn't support you as SA has indicated

sorry if some are offended

Math is good! I think this year they go into matrices, more advanced calculus and complex numbers. A whole bunch of other stuff too. Keen for year 12 Chemistry and Physics this year as well!

...by the reality.
There's been a slew of threads on surfing forums all over the net debating the locally made/internationally made surfboard industry over the years and still SA has just added something new to consider.

Geez I will pick this thread apart when I have time..
Mac you shut your mouth sometimes.

You blame others for not posting for whatever crap you come up with, well I can tell you for a fact,a lot of people are not posting because they know you,and shake their head at the tripe you post, always like a baby...I'm just the only so.called rude person who will type it.

Who are you directing this at?
In the case of shapers then it's in their best interests to adhere to this.

Wouldn't drop them at all! They are great to me and support me incredibly well, I am forever great full to them and my other sponsors. I would never think of riding anything other than my sponsors boards in a competition, especially during the period in which they sponsored me. If it came across like then it certainly isn't the way it was meant to.

But, as you have made a fair point I will take your advice on board be careful of the implications of which a certain post may have.

Just logged in after starting this...phew what a circus

Ive actually got two locally made boards one from Newies master Sam Egan and the other a Byron made McT.

I wanted to get a dedicated old school 10' noserider 50/50 rails, single fin etc without paying a lot of money as it wont be a every day ride, hence my inquiry about something that may fit the bill.

Still like to get an appraisal of the quality of the build and shape if anyone is able.

Nothing from me. Only thing I can say is depending on how soon you want it ECS are a good alternative All my boards have been fantastic!

Good luck finding your new freedom stick!

Good on you Tom. I say you are a fine ambassador for your sponsor's brand and having seen your surf vid and pics, they were smart to sign you up. (You may see some negative stuff on this forum from time to time, but you will also see how there is a choice as to whether to engage or to let it slide.) Keep smiling and sharing the stoke. Dave

Yes mate occasionally I do use the maths I did at uni...not all of it though. Studying maths teaches good logical thought though so if you want to do engineering I reckon it's good. I will send you a PM tomorrow to answer your other questions...gotta run going for a paddle!

SA, were you having a tiny dig at Bob McT for not having an Aussie Car!?

Bob goes for the Subaru because the roof racks are still moderately low, so his short arse can still get boards on the roof, without needing a step ladder!

I think Subaru generally are more reliable than some of the Aussie Cars... Especially 10 years back. My last string of cars have all been Suby... 400,000km, zero issues...

By the way, those Surf Warehouse Longboards look OK.

I would choose the Blue Swirl Performance Log.
$599...
But, did the original question get answered yet?
What's the quality like... Quality shape and construction???
I would assume so... !?

Absolutely not having a dig personally. I've never met him but have the upmost respect for him but was making a point;

It's perceived we should 'support our local shaper' as surfers but the shaper doesn't necessarily 'support the local industry' in other aspects of life. Which is totally fine and how I roll too however it does have a double standard attached to it IMHO.

And that means no, we never answered his question because we don't know the brand and because it was made overseas so was shot down at first base.

Btw. I had a 2007 Subaru Outback. 210,000km later and it never let me down.

Bob not only has huge respect but can pick a great car a mile away.
