www.thesurfboardwarehouse.com.au/surfboards/all-surfboards/longboards/

Anyone have any experience with these boards.

Guessing by the multiple spray designs available, price and the fact that the lengths are set then I would guess these are Chinese made. Just a guess and it doesn't mean they are decent.

I have been riding cheapies for over 3 years now and love them :)

Correct me if I am wrong anyone,
Tom.

Pop outs for sure and yes, I've been riding ECS boards which are similar however I guess it's a matter of finding out what factory process they are coming through, quality control, shaper input, glassing etc etc.

NaPapa for example were coming thru with poor quality products but ECS are IMHO excellent so these guys would need to provide some info as did Ryan from ECS recently on 'breeze.

I agree %100 and not least because I ride for ECS!

I had a Jacks board from city beach and it was horrendous, didn't last at all, all of my ECS boards have been the best boards I have had!

No idea about these boards but I personally will continue to support local shapers, each to their own though.

That's fine mate but I don't think red thumbing others for having their own opinion is in the best interests of the continued freedom of forums like this.

You've got your opinion and I've also got my own 'very informed' opinions and the punter who started this topic is entitled to parity. IE; two sides to every story and he may only be able to afford $650 and not $1400 for a local product and wants an honest opinion.

My case exactly, if I had the money, sure, I would be straight onto local shapers, just can not afford it

My honest opinion is if imports are flooding in then why would you try to compete in a world where everyone is tight for money? Go and build a more serious career, head to university, get a degree and accomplish things greater than a few surfboards. MY opinion, doesn't have to be anyone else's, agree or disagree, your choice.

No intention to offend anyone either, keep it chill guys!
Peace!
Tom.

A very valid point. I guess if people love what they do then of course they are going to do it. I had not thought of that while writing my previous post, thank you bento. And yes, young and still have a lot to learn about the world

Apologies to shapers out there I may have offended, obviously didn't think of that as bento has pointed out to me. Not really my place anyway. Silly.

Firstly I never red thumbed anyone, I don't even use the stupid things & I'm not that immature!

Secondly I never bagged anyone for looking into these or any other pop out board, all I said was I'll support the local shapers & then stated 'each to their own', so I fail to see where you comments came from regarding my post???

Many local shapers can produce boards customised to suit the rider but in a basic finish (no tint or gloss polish etc) for not much more than what some of these imports are selling for so that may also be an option that potential buyers may not know. I'm not & never said these were bad boards or said each potential buyer should pay more than they can afford, maybe some chill pills need to be prescribed.

Tom that was a very small minded comment to make & I'll put it down to immaturity, without these local shapers many of these mass producers wouldn't have designs to copy from. Maybe every artist & musician should give up their passions too & go & get a uni degree??? After all nobody can have passion or succeed without a uni degree...........(yes sarcasm) What a dull & boring world this would be...........

Ease up people...and especially ease up on young Tom...he seems like a humble kid who can recognize when he is wrong. I agree, without local shapers surfboards as we know it wouldn't exist....and I personally prefer a local shaped board....just coz it can be customized. That's not to say there is anything wrong with imports....ECS look sick!! I own a firewire longboard personally and love it...I own heaps of customs too....variety is the spice of life. And Tom did I read you are studying mechanical engineering?? I am a mech eng...graduated in 99 and have worked as a design engineer for 15 years...happy to answer any questions you may have about life after graduation.

Have just read the above comments and can see everyones point of view,we are individuals after all...the same..but different.

All manufacturing is about innovation/improvement to stay ahead of the competition..I remember PCB boards and then Tuflite came on the market..and the "big name" shapers were accused of selling out, in some peoples opinion...but surfing/manufacturing is an evolution..some embraced the change while others refused to accept it and prefer to stick with tradition..thats life..and on that..life is about learning...and I've found that I've learnt plenty ..by making plenty of mistakes...we do that till the day we depart...aloha all

Geez, give the bloke an answer.
Stuk, Lacey is close to the mark, search the 666 board review forums, they have popped up in there a few times.
I actually saw some in a shop and if they are the same as the boards I saw they looked like they were glassed very light.

And nothing wrong with a popout, there are good and bad but picking a board up from the rack doesn't compare to the whole walking into the shaper, ordering, seeing it made and that smell of fresh resin when you pick it up and the xcitement of looking at it in the corner waiting for it to cure.

Hey Stuk, Not sure about the Mals but a Mate bought a stand up thing from here and he is happy with it. After a once over the construction looks ok, Came with crap fins so the first thing he did was remove them and replace them with glassies.

You've both lost me with these comments - how so ?

Everyone's on their own trip but it seems as though that's not OK here.

A question for all you with the 'support your local shaper' theorists....

A lot of these guys got into the surfboard shaping business as they didn't want to conform to the 'get a proper job' scenario right ?

Many of them as the years go buy realise it's a hard slog, a lot of them actually lose their spirit to surf and realise it wasn't quite the romantic choice they thought way back when - not all, just some....and I could list a few.

So, they ply their trade, make money from sales, get their house, have families, play golf etc etc and we surfers support them as we like to 'support our local shaper' and that's great but;

Do those same guys come to you and I working 'the other type of job' when they need a plumber, or insurance, or a loan or a coffee etc etc ?

No, they'll ordinarily look for the best deal they can get whether it's imported or local because they are just like the rest of us that have constraints and will look after themselves before you and I - the romance of your notions are beautiful but the facts are that bloke that you are supporting won't often open his wallet or offer you the keys to his house if you end up on struggle street.

(Last time I saw Bob McTavish he drove a Subaru Outback Wagon and not an Australian built Holden and I'm sure he shopped around for the best deal for he and his family as an example without prejudice).

...again each to their own but the bloke asked about a cheap board and what your thoughts were on it - not whether you'd buy it or not based on where it's made - that'd be a different topic IMHO.

Ah, I wish to study civil engineering or mechanical possibly next year, still have year 12 to finish off.

I have various cousins and uncles that are engineers, one said mix it with law so you can get the jobs easier? What's your take on this? Anything you would say I should do along with it?

They offer a cadetship at the local council in Launceston so over the 4 summer breaks you work at the council and are paid 30,000 to do so over the four years. After your degree is finished you walk into a job there straight away on about 60,000 a year. Plan is to apply for that this year, straight to uni, finish my degree, hopefully get the job at the council, then get a bit of experience working there for a while. Plan is to use the money I earned there to buy a block of land, build a house on it then go a travel with my degree and a few years experience looking for work.

Are you in a management position or work under other engineers?

Hopefully that isn't too much for you to handle!

Cheers,
Tom.

Not at all mate .

You've confirmed my thoughts though. Some don't have a $1500 budget so ask about a $650 board. Just like Bob has the car that suits his lifestyle.

All good this end. Just balancing out the perceived unevenness.

Speaking of wicked cars, the other day one of my mates picked me up in his new ride. He is my age a paid every cent of the $18,000 it cost him to buy it. No loan. No help from parents, just hard work at the local hardware store. It was a 2008 BMW 320 e90 Executive edition with about 120,00 on the ODO. Was the sickest car I have ever been in. Funny thing is he already owns a Nissan X trail valued at about 10,00 which he again paid for.

Ridiculous!
