From a short boarder perspective as a general rule (and we know that rules are made to be broken aka KS) its pins for bigger waves - less surface area = less tail lift = digs in more on the rail = can handle more speed but consequently less manoeuvrable. Squares have much more surface area = speed and lift = more speed in fat spots = good for smaller waves.

Why you ask? Thinking of a change?

^^^ and pins tend to be smoother and draw your turns out.
A square tail IMO seem to be the opposite, the turning arc will be shorter etc.

Edit.

you can't just nail down square and pin like mentioned above. i've seen board bumps loose as on a area pin 666 and my nano will draw out the longest arcs you could ever do, but still smack out a tight arc too

Love the square on my hp,just turns way better.

But now that rounded pins and quads are great friends,I find that combo my favourite

I like all Tail except the swallow. Which is strange But I just hate fixing them all the time. I now have zero in my quiver which is a big relief - but I had to fix a friends at the weeknd - there is just no escaping them!!!

Exactly why I don't understand the concept of putting a pin tail on a groveller shortboard. Think hypto krypto or firewire double agent. Doesn't make sense. You want a groveller to be as loose as possible.

Swallows are great Ted. I had a Greg webber swallow that was just awesome. Fixing the tail can be a pain I agree.

yes indeed - the tail shape needs to be incorporated with other aspects of the boards overall design for a complete picture. Go the Nano

Captain - I have had lots of boards with swallows that I love - its just I am over fixing them all the time - no matter how careful I am with them I still manage to knock the end off them repeatedly. Very frustrating

yes I will. Its just that when I needed it i had to wait for 6 weeks so the Potatontor subbed in - its been such a good board I am reluctant to part with her. Considering both will cover similar wave ranges I am finding it hard to justify dropping $800 odd on another one. Especially when I can make at least 3 boards for that much.

But my time will come I promise. LL will be trading his one soon for a smaller one and I will buy it off him. Pretty simple equation really. Hoping to come up your way in Sept LL - so that should give you enough time to get your new smaller one

Lacey I've reconnected with my old accountant, not only is he the best he also surfs,he was telling me over a few beers on a trip one of the boys asked if he had been surfing much,he replied every day for the past week and commented imagine surfing every day for a year. Well he told me he has 37 days to complete this mission. His rule is at least 3 waves and can be on a prone or 666,he also owns a Nano which he just picked up last week.

He happened to be there on youR big day last year and was blown away by the guys that were with you,he asked how you were I replied fitter than ever

Looks sweet. I prefer a tiny square in my hp over pins.....yet the new midlength pin I'm waxing is looking so very sexy

So what model is it mac?
