I got in 1 1/2 hours on Monday but have had a lot of pain in the right shoulder since. Pain seems to be in the front of the shoulder, I have heard of shoulder rotorcuff damage, think thats what its called.

Anyone had similiar, any advice or remedial action taken.

Hey lads - if it is persisting after a week get yaselves off to the quack - sounds like you've both hyper-extended on the paddle stroke , an op would put you out until summer & require sh!teloads of therapy ( can't think of the word I'm on the piss)

I'm getting an MRI next week and it will cost $270 and the government won't allow me to claim a cent back.

Best 270 you will spend mate it will get straight to the core and then you can work out a treatment plan without any guessing = saving money.

Good luck with it all.

Local physio tells me at our age , well my age , if I wake up in the morning with no aches or pains I have woken up dead .don't know about the rest of you but I wake up every morning very very alive .

Macks right about the scan .Had a busted neck years ago bounced around from doctor to doctor for about 9 month till my left arm was useless , couldn't use it. Had a scan done instant diagnosis , had the chop , problem fixed .
By the chop I mean neck surgery not the dreaded chop .

Cheers mac. Shoulder is sweet. I am getting an MRI on my brain cause I had an episode of dissorientation and slight diziness last week. Had a CT and ultrasound on my neck to check blood flow ok. So far so good - just want an answer as to what happened.

Pup, Jen is sweet I know you miss her.

Not sure why there is no rebate on MRI's, but it's money well spent.

Thanks all I think the MRI is the only way to go.

You are right Mac about getting it diagnosed faster, I put up with back pain for years with Drs sending me to physios but wasnt till I got an MRI that I found I had bulging discs.

Konnichiwa Simondo son,
Not sure why either and not complaining about the coin although I am curious why no rebates on MRI as I claimed on CT and ultrasound.

Good luck with the scan - fortunately I have never had any problem with my back - touch wood. Must be because I have spent all my working life in front of a computer - I just have eye and hearing issues

Scotty,
One of the girls here calls me "Simon-son". I like it!

On a different note to everyone, here's an example of how life can slap you in the face very quickly...

My mate Rob, he lost both his parents within 2 years. They were both only 65, roughly. His dad went first with a 1 year battle with stomach cancer. His mum went next... I bumped into his mum Marge at the footy at The MCG, and I asked her how she was, and she said she's been having some strong headaches this week. A few days later she's in hospital as they got worse, and she never came out... She actually had a series of small strokes, and then a large stroke... Effectively blocked blood flow to the brain I think... I'm no doctor though.

My dad's long term partner and soul mate Marion... She was diagnosed with bowel cancer on my Dad's Birthday, and exactly 1 year later, TO THE DAY! She passed away on Dad's Birthday.

If you are unlucky, it can go pear shaped very quickly.

Aaah,Simon-son "wax on, wax off".
On a more serious note I guess we just don't know what's around the corner in life. I guess we tend to take life for granted and you truly don't know how precious things are til it's gone.

It might not be related but if you sleep with your should/arms above your head that is very bad. Sadly i do and it causes me untold grief in the shoulders

Its a simple RSI issue or hypertension ( i really can't remember what my doc said it was) But the simple answer is learn to sleep a different way. Which after 40 years that is tough going

I stretch mine all the time through out the day and use it in its full motion alot as well. That and some more shoulder and arm exercises and that has helped.

Could be way of but had 5 mins spare

Ghey tip of the day.

Sleep on your back and put a pillow on your chest and cross your arms over it, tricks your brain a bit. If you sleep on your stomach it is also bad, to cure this one sleep on your side and put a pillow between your knees, these are both the "right way to sleep". They supposedly take the pressure off your lower back. If you sleep on your arm and can't get out of the habit, when you get up in the morning you should stretch it back out just pit your arm on the top of a door frame and lean forward.

^^^^anytime you can have a stretch do it. it feels good and if its not suss you wont look like a freak or a pervert. my routine goes for about 20 mins every morning,if i dont stick to t im pretty screwed. i usually have the computer on and a cuppa close by. do a stretch and have sip, have a stretch see who is a awake on here, have a stretch and check the cams etc...then go and surf for me now im old its not so much about preventing injury,it is more about maintaining the body to deal with how ****ed up it is by preventive maintenance

Stuk good advice from Chrispy ^^^ but you have to have discipline I have none and pretty much am in pain most mornings and after every surf, I feel like a million bucks while I am surfing If the shoulder prob does end up requiring any sort of surgery my one tip is to get several opinions as surgeons IMO are quick to recommend surgery to fast and shoulder surgery is very painful and takes months to rehabilitate hopefully you have just strained a muscle
