Now here is a Cadillac - will your one be this fast CMC?

A driver has cracked 350km/h on a new stretch of freeway in Texas, with the permission of local authorities.

The high speed run recorded a top speed of 220.5mph (355km/h) on electronic timing equipment. That's faster than the 325km/h top speed managed by formula one drivers at the recent Korean Grand Prix.

The run was made to “test” the speed cameras on a controversial new section of freeway in Texas where motorists will be able to go above the usual speed limit if they pay a fee.

Motorists will be able to go above the speed limit if they pay a fee on a stretch of highway in Texas.
Safety advocates claim the private operators of the toll road agreed to pay more than $30 million to Texas authorities to have the higher posted speed limit on the 65km stretch of road.

The new toll road, which opened earlier this week, has a speed limit of 85mph (137km/h), well above the usual national posted limits.

The test was organised by car tuner and time-trial driver John Hennessey, who told the Jalopnik website that local authorities had been more than willing to help set up the stunt.

The Texas Department of Transportation even sent a highway patrol vehicle equipped with radar to capture Hennessey's speed. The camera managed to get a clear picture of both front and rear licence plates on the car at a speed of 290km/h.

Hennessey set the speed in a heavily modified Cadillac CTS-V that puts out 895kW of power, roughly twice the output of a V8 supercar.

^^^^

No chance mate, that is crazy stuff.

I just bought a Hilux but I tell you if I was a rich man I'd love to have something with that low note of a rumbling V8. Probably in a HT Monaro if it was a dream car, ok, in gun barell grey, walnut dash if I be specific.

And the very best of luck finding one , you'd probably have to restore it yourself CM unless maybe Shannon's had one up for auction

Was going to grab a phase 3 about 20 years ago before they went crazy . Kicking myself now I didn't grab one could have been my retirement fund .
Bit like the block of beachfront land at 1770 I was offered for $20000 about 20 years ago during a divorce settlement ., and knocked back . Bugger I could have been retired on the profits from that one if I had gone through with it .

Geez thats a shame Taz , bet there's a few original owners who got rid of these "Shakers" for virtually peanuts only to see them skyrocket in $$$ a few years later too
and yeah that beach land would have been cool to just retire , surf & invite us Greenroom brothers to for sure

I'm off for a kip - just finished nite shift , catch yawl later folks , have a good one , beer o clock very soon for good boys & girls

I hear ya pain - I almost brought a block of land overlooking Indicators and the Valley at Raglan back in 1995 for the pricey sum of $50k NZD. I have never forgiven myself. Every time I look at the house thats now been built there I want to jump of the nearest cliff. Idiot. I had a hangup over the services - in those days the power lines ended and it was going to cost a small fortune for mains power or I would have had to run off a generator. Foolish.
