Fast becoming a no go zone, more beaches closed due to large shark sightings in the Ballina area over the weekend, theres even more warning on the Gold Coast as large schools of bait fish make their way north.

it is a **** thread, still good to read.....watched a massive bait ball go by yesterday,as they do a million times every year and nobody is eaten...... yep i have watched footage on goldy news with shark chasing them...guess what nobody was eaten. it is a luck of the draw type deal imo.

my favourite spots around ballina i must say have me a wee bit concerned, these places have always been sharky, just read what bob and gg have to say.....

on the coast pffft...we have drum lines and nets......no that is not bait for someone to attack me,just a fact

So your saying drum lines and netting isn't working, after 50 plus years

Maybe we need to rethink the problem and find a better solution

I think the drum lines and nets are doing a great job here.

I over heard a guy talking yesterday, said a shark chased a whale out of the water at d-bah on Saturday,I also heard a guy say an eye for an eye.

Anyway my topic was not for a cull shark debate but I had a feeling it may turn into one,it was a warming for guys that surf that area.

They are working fine. QLD - 1 fatal in 44 years...

The fact you use the word cull to describe what they do shows that you don't even know what a cull is...
Or what the nets / drums do..

I could post the research programs that are done over here but you wouldn't read it or if you did you would just use it in some way to justify your position..

As Chrispy said , no point arguing

Will get dragged down to your level and beaten by experience...

I'm ****ed if i know why you keep responding to shark threads...

As i said the other day, love your passion but your understanding of the issue and the ability to have a discussion is beyond you.

i will bite.....where in the **** did he say they were not working? have you thought since they are working so well we may need more, and his response was alluding to that?

or perhaps he was just taking the piss knowing that your shark alert went off on your monitor and he was timing how quickly it was before you responded as we all have side bets going on....

I read this morning that (sadly) two motorcyclists lost their lives in seperate crashes on the Gold coast yesterday.
Since I ride motorcycles as well as surf I know I have much more chance of becoming a road statistic than a shark attack victim.
I've had plenty of near misses on my bike but virtually nothing to speak of so far with sharks.

I get your point but They are not related statistics.

The incidence of road accidents does not relate to number of shark attack in any way..

It like comparing a pumpkin to a porcupine....

I can use the same methodology to prove by statistics that the average person has one testicle and an ovary... Which we know is impossible..

"The incidence of road accidents does not relate to number of shark attack in any way..."
I didn't say it does.
However I would hazard to bet that as a motorcyclist and surfer I am statistically at a higher risk of encountering a road based accident while riding than a shark attack while surfing, that's all.

Umm you did.

You compared the risk of one to the other.

I was just pointing out., as has been done 1000 times before that you can't compare them on statistics..

But I deleted it before any responses for a reason.
These shark threads are becoming silly.

We know there is a risk. What the risk is no one can say..
Misusing statistics doesn't help anyone.

If you were surfing balina today I would guess your risks odds could be a tad higher.

If anyone doesnt think so please feel free to surf balina.

Any takers. Surfing weekend at balina

Huge risk entering the water around Ballina huge, a thousand more chance of an attack surfing there than other spots these sharks are hanging around and for the long haul

I agree with you CF 100%. Definitely more risk riding a bike than surfing and sharks. If you lived at Balina though your risks surfing would be higher than those surfing elsewhere at the moment.

well its not only balina.

go swimming in the Burleigh waters/ varsity lakes area.

these odds facts are stupid.

if a shark is hungry, is where you are - your in danger.

odds mean jack at that point.
