I was thinking would a big arse Horan winged keel fin work. I had one in the 80's in thruster and it was a dog.

Now I'm thinking for a longboard, mainly a nose rider type
Board would it work. my thought would be that it would offer some nice drag, but allow the big beasts more maneuverability. Giving a win win for a log. Let's you still nose ride, but could take away that one dimension board away......because you could have some ease at at turning it

It might work Chrispy.

In the early 90's a local guy, Jan Simpson, swore by them. He was quite a good surfer and felt that they hung in well in steeper waves and also allowed smooth flowing turns.

He had two different variations on a 9'1" and an 8'er.

Never tried one myself but could be worth a go.

Chrispy, some of the loggers are very traditional though... So the winged keel doesn't really get considered... Single fins look sexy, until you add wings! ;)

I'm not concerned about being traditional. I'm just after a better surfing experience.

Et that was my thinking. Let's the board hang in the pocket, but will still allow the big boards to flow more freely instead of that dodgy log feeling. Might make a log more fun?

I think a 10' winged keel would look very sexy grom man

The first mal I had that I rode for 10 years came with one.
I liked it so much I never tried any other fins, even though it
was a three box set up. I rode it in all conditions

Your showing your youthful age Chrispy, this has been tried and tested way back, the wing will not work for what your looking for,it will be the reverse and lift the tail of your board.

hi chrispy- not a bad idea. but i don't think it would work- well not with my board anyway. the very design of the log board defines its self as a ultimate trimming flowing machine which usually involves chines, rolled bottoms and edges etc etc. everything is soft and flowing, there is nothing really to turn on .

its the first thing i learnt with my board - force is a no no. even the gentlest pump is a waste of time. i get more turning power out of 12'6 666.

cw designed the hotlog to get more turning then most logs but its still the flowing perfect trim type turns. i was so glad i didn't put side bits in because it would have been a waste of time

i say- let a log be a log and learn to get the most out of your turns on a log with poise, balance and precision.

ps - did i really just say all that- whats happening

Lacey I understand what your saying, but I dont want to turn a big girl into a carving machine. More that it would help the board turn a lot more freely. The keel allowing it to tip side to side?

I ran a rear in my shortboard way back in time perhaps in another life.I wasn't much good back them somethings never changeI lent to a mate his car got stolen and that was the last I saw of it Mrs Horan is a customer of mine and she kindly gave me a signed fin which is about 8 inches from memory but I've drank so much coffee my memory is shot
