chrispychru said...hey ted how big and heavy are you? are you a pro, experienced or kook

why did you go a fattened silver bullet instead of just getting a fat bullet? what are your thoughts on the cathedral hull(it sounded good to me the description). what sort of waves will you be surfing it in? i ask because that fat bullet sounds like the go to board for me on the beachies(i was also advised that the sumo would be another good choice for what i want) cheers

I weigh in at ard the 95kg mark....I enjoy my beer, pies and cans of coke too much!!!! Am I a pro - no - but I have been surfing for 20 plus years so feel like I know my way around out in the ocean. I have been using a fat bullet and a silver bullet the last month and found that the fat one has far too much volume on the rail and was a little skatey when it was bigger. The silver bullet seemed a lot tighter in the turns and felt more solid under my feet - I had a lot of confidence when driving through turns on it at high speed. The only thing I did not like about it was the volume.
I wanted to keep the board as short as I could but given that most of the bigger swells we get around here involve alot of water moving or / and a big paddle from the beach I wanted lots of foam to make life easy. I am no Kelly Slater trying to do airs or rubbish like that. These days I still enjoy double overhead waves but once it gets to 2 * head and a half I am not enjoying myself anymore so realistically I will not be going out in anything bigger than 2 *. It will mainly be surfed on some sucky reefs (getting an extra strong glass job) and the beachies when conditions permit. So it just became a case of getting a board that was not too big in length but had heaps of volume. I also wanted something that would still be fun to surf when it was 3ft so I only had to take one board away with me. Its weird that hull design - I was not entirely convinced about it after hearing about it and reading up on his website. If its so good why is everyone else not doing it? But in all honesty I found myself being able to get into waves just a bit sooner and I was also catching waves that I would have missed on other boards even though the silver bullet did not have enough volume for me.
You are welcome to have a go on it at PP if you make it down. Muz is heading away for 6 weeks in 2.5 weeks time so if you want one you may need to put an order in asap.
If you are down this way in the next few weeks I have a 6'6" Silver Bullet in my garage that you can have a play on.
