Here's my list from 25 years of surfing( with numbers from each shaper)
In the last 6 or so years I've only bought 2nd hand( except for an awesome price on a Bourton fat bullet)

Murray Bourton - about 10 boards
Ian Byrne (Mt Woodgee) 5 boards. (channel bottoms )
Bob McT (0 boards so far)
I have an awesome Steve Del Rosso 9'1, and some his other shapes posted on here look great

Kym started and owned Watercooled surfboards in Torquay and is featured in the Surf Museum. As Victorian Champion and big wave charger. He ran his business using for the time cutting edge technologies like Carbon and Kevlar etc years before most had heard of it.

He also shaped Sailboards and at the advent of Cobra Sailboards shaped many of their original designs for them in Thailand.

He then went on to relocate to Thailand with the vision of creating a quality outsourcing (Cobra had already revolutionised Windsurfing with their production process and technologies) option for surfboard businesses to produce large orders and target global markets like Japan etc.

I won't mention brands as some you may not even know are made in Thailand but will say that he is the technical guy that has put the production of the boards (Surf and SUP) to practice that have layed the foundations of market acceptance for nearly all technology brands to date.

No doubt this will be argued by some that a shaper that validated the production of surfboards in Asia has been influential to the market and that's fine but for those that know Kym know what he has contributed to the industry as a whole.

Thanks for that CMC. I hear ya loud and clear. I always wondered where the Watercooled came from - now I know I think that in terms of influence you are right up there with this suggestion. From what i recall NSP are the worlds top selling surfboard as well. As I have said before I am a great fan of those who try to bring new tech advancements to the surf industry. I still remember the first time I saw a tufflite and Salmon at a shop.....everyone was rubbishing the idea and the fact that they had names........all I could think about was why not - Snowboarding had gone that way - 10 yrs later and everyone is naming their boards, technology is improving and people are out there pushing the envelope. Its been a great I reckon. Was he mates with Bert?

Stu's work for those that don't know

Stu does shape a pretty good stick. the one in my avatar pic is one of his. wouldn't mind another soon but would like to order from him face to face, instead of him just looking at the job sheet and getting second hand info from one of his team.
