glad you posted mr goddard. i was only telling mac the other day i would love my 8ball as a quad(few adjustments) . since i got the bourton i completely understand yours and muzzas idea on the quad benefits. i do think you two blokes have a better idea than most on how how to get the best out of them as well

Quad it up mate you wont be dissapointed...run the tail fins up 8" and make sure they are parallel..ie no toe in (most important imo)...and just use your side bite plugs for your front fins...start with M7s in front and M3s in the tail

I think that most people forget about learning and foget that not every single person in the world wants to ride a board over 9 feet but still wants something fun to learn on. I am learning right now, I am almost thirty and I will never be a good surfer. My board is a 7'10 and I love it. Its the one board I can have for ten years take out in pretty much all conditions and have a crack. To say that the term mini mal makes you sick is a bit harsh I think. Aren't surfers supposed to be laid back ?

I've had local 7.6 and 8.0 customs that I have loved and literally surfed till the glass blistered off the foam. I could 'throw' both of these boards around in anything from 2' - 5' surf.

I think it comes down to the individual and what you want out of your surfing. After a few injuries slowed me down and I put on a few kgs with age, I decided for something that would keep the wave count up, but still let me 'bash the lip'.

As long as you are not sharing waves with 666's and esky lids it's all good newguy...

Hey champ come back in 10 years and tell us how many boards you have tradedand don't sell yourself short on the I'll never be a good surfer, nope its not easy for most but as Ii have said before it will click one day and I still remember that day at Greenmount it clicked for me and yes I still remember that wave and session like yesterday Hooked me for life thank you surfing!
Mate the term minimal makes me sick, really it does,I'd say fun board for around 7.2 and up or even mid length sounds good but minimal nah,its all just a term.
You have not met me and I consider myself laid back once again thank you surfing.

Mini mals or mid lenghts or whatever you want to call them are very valid surf design...for the short boarder they are big enough to feel like riding a longboard and for a longboarder they will feel like a shortboard when comming off a nine plus..without much adjustment to nose and tail differences...and why are they even pigeon holed?...mals are only determined mals if they are over nine feet right?...thats because of bloody contests....has to be over nine...so all mals are over nine!...I'm short and weigh 68kgs...some times over nine is a very big board...this ones the M8...and at times it can be your best M8

ALRIGHT! Lets get this sorted. When I talk about mini mals, I guess I had in mind the cheap pop outs that beginners and weekend warriors jump on which while alright really aren't much of a board. Yet I never thought about properly shaped mid lengths (haven't seen any) and those I apologise for grouping with mini mals aka McHenry which from the look from your display picture, is a custom and a ripper of a board most likely!

You are learning

You've got it, those 7ft ish pop out **** that backpackers ride are just that a piece of **** suited to a backpacker.. They'll float any pale disease ridden Euro trash you can find, but they turn like ****... They are designed for the most part to go straight and be stable and float as I said above disease ridden euros... There as close to a surfboard as ****ing a blowup doll is to sex. Sure your doing the same thing but it not even close......

That was my point - I view them as diff machines and hence agree with what Argee the master craftsman was saying in principle. Some of those mid length boards that Simondo gets excited about almost turn me on as well

No point in lying about it, I am learning to surf and I suck and I love surfing. Enough said. Im so new half the time I dont even know what people are on about. All I know is every time this Canadian gets in the water I am one happy man, thats all that I care about. Two weeks ago I was at Goolwa Beach with one other guy on a longboard and he was giving me a few tips and we were just chatting and about 5 metres a way this huuuge whale came up and slowly cruised by us. It was probably about 20 metres long, just me and him in the calm water, sun rising. It was a zen moment.
