Just laybuyed a red McTavish Fireball yesterday. Super stoked cant wait to get it out of the shop and into the water. I have been riding mini-mals and Hybrids up to 8foot decided it was time to go the real deal. Copping heaps of good old fashioned banter from my shortboarding mates but they actually cant wait til I get it so they can have a crack. Comes with a big reputation the fireball hope I can do it justice. Time to leave the beachies when the swell is up and head to point breaks and reefies!

Probably the best longboard EVER made - congratulations. I can guarantee that you will do it proud - the fireball is the most versatile and easy to surf board you will ever ride. It will go as hard or as easy as you like - an example of this is when I bought my first 9'6 F/B a few years ago I was pushing my wife onto 1ft whitewater one morning and got my first ever stand up barrel on a mal the next morning !! they are insane and will serve you well for many years.

OT but would you mind giving me the measurement from the tail of your board to the rear of the fins on the carver ? I have a clone carver but am not happy with the fin placement. Think the placement should be a little more forward but none down my way I can check.
Thanks Fox

Fox, I don't have a carver mate.Did have a eightball with that same flame spray as the fireball in the photo.
I use 6 inch and 7 inch centre fins. The fb is 9.4 and has a 7 inch centre fin which is 8 cm from the front of the fin box.

Thanks anyway Mac yep I use 4in thruster conf. but the front fin placement is just a little too far back I feel.Dont seem to get the drive out of the board I expected.Might experiment with bigger rear fin but if anyone could help would appreciate.

IMOH, it has a lot to do with body weight and surf style, cruiser or ripper.

Billboard knows a bucket load on fin set ups,so if your out there BB jump
in.

Fox, It took me a lot of coin and time to find the perfect set up for myself.

I love the fireballs, i am about to get my local shaper to do me aprox the same board but 3 inch as a little more float and glide would be nice.

Mac i have stolen that pick of the red stripe, its going on my new stick but in brown i feel retro.

Steal it BP, but why go retro on a FB.The red stripe is a redline 9.6x23.1/4x3.1/4 for those small point peeler day's

Hi mac, As the board will only be BASED on the fireball as i think it would be verry hard to copy all the bizzo it wont be a fireball as such.

I love the fireball i just want to go 3 inch think for more float glide etc.

Iwas either do this, or go single fin retro all rounder like wayne parkes type board

9'1 or 9'2 x 23 x 3

I just want a basic spray just thought a stripe would set it off.

The old stripe is a classic and if you want that old school retro spray,go cream all over with a brown or maroon stripe. 23 x 3 is sure going to float you at 85 kgs if I am correct? Question is, if your going down the performance board line ? why so much volume ? Sure its going to make paddling a breeze ( pardon the punt ) but your going to loose the snappy turns IMHO not that that counts
If you really want the glide slider have a good look at the redline or Donald Takayama ( miss spell ) he make some awesome shapes for the slide glide. mac

I think im going to have the same dimetions as before 9'1 22/7'8 x 2/7'8

As per GSI fireball but i will make that 2/7'8 now 3 inch for a little more float.

What do you think.

I cant find a lot of board sprays on the net either.

Donald takayama DT 2

Duey weber stylist SINGLE FIN

Love both boards but i feel the DT 2 is thin vs the mactavish fireball im use to anyway.

PB the DT will out perform, but the single fin looks like a classic point cruiser

oh that's just my opinion

Yea, that was my thoughts as well, the single looks the shizza but only for dribble to one or two ft and a slowwww turner.

Thr DT seems rather narrow and thin vs the fireball i thought.

Bit of modern and old school combined by the look. Good all rounder i guess

Went out for a grovel today, Had a ride on a robert august 9'8 nose rider prfff so heavy and slow.

Take off are good and it does a good late drop but tend to nose dive before you know what is going on.

Crap surf thought 2 ft dumping so verry short rides.

I hired the DT pro model in Hawaii a couple of years ago 9.1 x ? x ? I cant remember.
It went pretty well in 4 foot.

Hey, I have just bought a 9'1 Fireball evolution squaretail. I have used it about 4 times. I would be interested to hear from anyone on the best place to put the centre fin. It seems a little to stiff at the rear, but further up the front seems almost slower. I tend to ride in 2-3ft surf. Also what other centre fin options loosen the board up a bit and give it more drive. Mine is standard 8" I think with the 2 small side fins. Im use to riding thrusters so any advise on this would be great.

Hey slambo welcome, nice board you have there.

Firstly to loosen it up drop a 6,61/2 or 7 inch centre fin in and place it towards the front of the fin box, 7/8 cms. I surf on the tail and it works for me Keep in mind you will lose drive dropping fin size this is just MO.

I put mine smack dam in the middle.

Hey mac, can you check the fireball dimentions /GSI vs the Tkayama DT 2

Im no good at old school dimentions

Im thinking the mactavish fireball is thicker, more float and drive

Hey BP, if you want performance and a bit of an alrounder (takes on anything anywhere) the fireball is the pick of the crop IMHO I've have a Jackson Close mctavish ( the one with the black and white stripes,it loves 3+ anything under its slow of the mark. The FB just loves to be out there in anything. For under 2 foot you will find me on my mctavish redline or psh sup

BP,you know and love the FB best board in the stable
I am 95 kg's and ride 9.4 x 23 x 3, for paddling I lose out but the
9.1's 9.4's are looser than the 9.6 which is a great board. 9.4 perfect
for me IMHO, and its just mine
My mctavish redline is 9.6 x 23 1/4 x 3 1/4 for the glide on small point day's

Yea, i just want something different for a while. i.e Takayama DT 2

says its good for ankle high to well over head.

But i want more float or paddle power in a board but from the dimentions it looks like the DT 2 is not as floaty as the fireball.

The fireball is great for me at 85kg but more paddle power would be better but dont want to go to the 9'3 as the surf here is slow

Im not sure as im no good on dimentions.

I would like to go somewhere between performance and retro, im over chucking the board round like a shorty, I want more of a relaxed style but a quick turning board still. Hense the clasic styles of takayama.
