4 nice shots of Bob.
1 - how sweet!?
2 - down the line fun
3 - big cuttie
4 - back door

Here's two of me at Cokes, I think. A little bit windy that arvo.
Pic 1 - plenty of speed, just done a mid wave cuttie/stall, and now resetting and lining up the next speed section...
Pic 2 - sliding off the end of the wave... Look at the definition in those calf muscles!

This was just around from Sultans (Sultans of Speed!).

Did someone mention fish?
Mate, more fish than you can poke a stick at... And snorkelling... Holy hell... the colours, the fish variety... the huge manta rays! Wow!

Bob story 2 - everything in nature has fairings... All wings and fins resemble "glass on fins" not the abruptness of FCS fin attachments.

Mac, around Day 6 we had a flat afternoon. We had great little drinking session on land at Kandooma resort. But prior to that drinking session I was probably missing the family. But the following days pretty much pumped, 3 surfs per day, rest, drink, sleep, stories... Barely had time to miss the family after that!

I would love to go again. But the wife is less keen about me buzzing off on trips spending dough!

There were a couple of sessions that I wished were pulsing harder... But then again, you don't really want pulsing double over head on day 1 either.

Reefs - they are mainly dead coral rock, with a small amount live coral, so if you hit the bottom hard, I would say that your chances of a bruise/graze v's a BAD Coral Cut/gash... would be 20-1 or better. So it's quite a safe place. Waves are less likely to pitch as hollow pits, compared to Mentawis/Indo/G-Land, etc.

Yes that was almost the story of my Samoa trip - I wished that every day had pulsed harder - looks like you got a lot more waves than my last trip. Stoked for ya. I would love to go there one day but cannot see it happening for a few yrs yet sadly In the meantime I am happy to live vicariously through you!!!

Try this place if you want to Maldives on a budget. There are a stack of quality waves within a short distance of here, and because of this, there are quite a few Surfari Boats lurking in this region. But, because there are quite a few wave options, it does disperse the crowd reasonably well.

Not sure how much boat transfers would be to other waves... But you have Cokes (Right) & Chickens (Left) right out the front, no need for boats.

For 10 days at Cokes, without beer, the minimum budget would be;
Flights from Bris/Syd/Mel to Male - $1500
Transfers to Cokes - maybe $100-$150 return
10 Nights including all meals - $1100
Beer - it's a local island, forgot to ask if you can buy beer on that island. But beer is the same price as Aus bars anyway.
Incidentals - duty free perfume, airport snacks.... $100

PS - our Aussie surf guide on the boat is the guy that owns and runs Cokes Surf Camp. He looks about 45-48 years old, but the wiry guy is actually 60!! Even with his sun beaten skin, he still looks young!

Tux, Maldives v's Indo
I'm no Indo expert, but I've been a few times.
Maldives have sparkling clear water. Only a tiny pit of pollution in the water around the main hub/capital of Male. Pronounced "Marley", as in Bob Marley.

Maldives - Waves aren't as heavy, typically.
Maldives - no headaches surrounding land transport. Basically it is all water transport. No traffic!! Barely any cars, small atolls.
Maldives - no Bali belly, food is great, but less variety compared to the options at Kuta. But boat trips in Indo and even G-Land has limited food variety.

Maldives are more expensive, and take a little bit longer to get to.
Going Over - Left home at 7am, and arrived at 10:30/11pm Local Time. Boat was waiting very close to airport, and it was an extremely easy transfer.
Coming Home - Dawn Surf, 40 minute cruise to Male, 2.5 hours in the capital. Checked in at 1pm Local Time, and arrived home at about 1pm the next day.

Crowds - Maldives is a clear winner.

I personally prefer Maldives over Indo.

Maldives ****s on Indo... Completely different in most ways.

As Simo said must nicer, waves are more friendly although in peak season 6-8 ft is possible, but it won't scare you to death.

My mate has even been back twice in the wrong season and surfed Lohis by himself at 4 ftish, was a bit onshore he said but still very whack able but no boat transfers at that time of year.

So keen to go back...
