Again thx for suggestions. Solely looking at a pu board and am only buying a newbie. As luck would have it i was talking to an old fella today on the water who was riding a McT fireball square tail. Nice board. From what i've read tho the McT are cheaper but Taks have better resale. Anyone want to share their thoughts on the Fireball.

[br]Hi

New to the forum. The lovely lady as a present for my upcoming 40th has offered to buy me a new board. As i have a few shorties already i thought i might try a long board. I am leaning towards an In the Pink as i already have a little Takayama Scorpion which has and is a great board. Looking for a single fin nose rider mostly for beach breaks. I am 75 kg and about 175cm. Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers

Benji

Tollhurst Goddard Clearwater. The only problem you will have is the choice of great shapers we have on the east coast. Taks are just like mctavish, a great man's name attached to a company to rip off old rich people

Taks are probably a bit more expensive than McT's but great boards if you don't mind paying a bit more. Billy Tolhurst is well worth a look as well.

Don't discount Gary Burden from Astro either, he has some great designs & unless things have changed completely hand shapes each board to suit the surfer.

I have to laugh at the ignorance of that statement , with living in another country and while all the names mentioned are great people Tak and Mctavish are well known in this country . That puts them on another level ,there is no problem with resale of boards with those names on them

The same applies in Australia TB,at a guess 50 years of making state of the art boards and being a pioneer, having some very talented craftsmen, some say the best in the business warrants top end pricing.

at has made me laugh.towball and Mac lol. Bob has f all to with cough anymore unless you pay a extra $400 for him to do it. And if I was going to buy a cough cough that would be the only way to do it. Innovation at cough cough does not exist anymore. I agree a very high quality product.
Taks are a different basket but a same same really. no real New innovation but a already great design that is proven,I would easily buy a tak Over a cough cough. Actually since you pointed it out tb I think I will change my mind and agree partly with you. It is now that mctavish are only bought by rich old people or people captured by their marketing which a business what smart enough to buy which had the great man's name to it. They are even smart enough to keep him there like some poor animal in a zoo so people come in can be near history. I was stoked to meet the great man myself. So mac and tb you can have your cough cough to yourselves lol

Tell you what chrispy if I was Bob I wouldn't want to be full on in the business either , infact the people who brought my biz pay me silly money just to work 25hrs a week so it is common practise . Surf Industry would be one hardest to succeed in, you can say what you want but I don't think there is any one else that has the depth that he has half the people you talk about weren't even born when he started . Sleeping in cars living rough to semi retiring living comfortably having your brand known Globally is one hell of an achievement . I can tell you I have lost a few fortunes in my time . When I was a kid a well known Aussie Manufacturer turned up over here started pumping boards out every kid around was on one of his boards , can't remember how long he lasted maybe a year and I don't know for sure but I think he went back your way tail between his legs . He's still working shaping boards today north of you just as clever as Bob about the same age . So I don't think for minute it was a cake walk for the Mct Brand and I don't think your criticism is fair . I know what I'm paying before I buy , to phone from another country and order and pay for a board cause I trust the company and the people that work for it says a lot .
Last of all me old mate after being in biz for 25yrs myself the one thing I learned was you NEVER NEVER bag the opposition

Now I just need Mac lol. Very well said towball. I know your upset because you have used spell checker. I do agree with most of what you posted. About Bob anyway, the rest is why I am right. Without the bens mctavish would not exist and would be like the others you talk about, great shapers rubbish business folk. Oh and I love you too Mr towball. I still can't put the smiley faces up. But there is a big one here if I could

Again thank for suggestions. Had a McT Sumo fir a while and it was a fun board so dont see a prob with McT's tho if i get a board made i wont be getting a big M across irs nose. Narrowing it down but wandering about two boards. The McT redline - is this an alleounder?

I have a hayden shapes short board and uts great. He is now making a longish board haydenshapes.com/page_var163

Yep don't buy a redline. Buy a evo2 if you get a mctavish. Others might disagree.
