Ok I admit I have watched the odd sup surfing clip. Seems to me those riding performance sups aren't using the paddle much to initiate a turn and don't nose ride. Some kneel down to paddle out and sit on there boards in the lineup. Could longboard shapers ( 8 -9 foot)learn from the sup shapes by reducing the nose area and thus swing weight for those that don't nose ride . Would this create a more hp longboard.

Noway, longboard shapers have been doing a pulled in nose since the early 60's.
If you look at a good HP 666er in action their boards have a shortboard outline.
So in saying that, take you question to the shortboard room and see what happens

I've got to agree with Mac, everything I see in wave riding 666 design features just screams, "I'm a short board with an eating disorder"

Nah no troll just been thinking about doing something different with a long board. Getting some extra performance and thinking out side the box a bit instead of the traditional HP board. Thought I might look for some input. Tuff crowd

I've always liked longboards with pulled in noses (think DVS reef runner or reef rider as Simondo calls them).
Also just got an 8'2 x 23" x 3&1/8" Islander model from Michael Cundith which packs foam like a longboard but is a shortboard planshape and rocker.
It is an absolute blast to ride in the 3' plus waves I've had it out in (out in or in out).
The big cutbacks on a board with such nice curve in the planshape is very addictive.
Goes vertical so easily and feels just like an ultra smooth shortboard in an admittedly massive package.
Hence few will ever try something like this and just go straight to a longboard which is a a completely different feel.

It would seem to me that the simple timeline would negate Longboard design being influenced by 666's.
Longboard surfing really took hold in the 1960s with the introduction of the Malibu style of boards and has progressed from there. There were a number of years where no design improvements were made, that was from the introduction of the "shortboard" till the early eighties, and then the modern longboard was reintroduced and steamed ahead from that point.
666's were really only introduced to Australia about 2005 and were big heavy boards that were not very versatile. Since that time there has been rapid development in both surf style, all round and downwind/ race boards.
Given the different turning styles, standard positions and centres of gravity of 666 versus longboard it would seem to me that longboard would influence 666 rather than the opposite.
Just my humble opinion though.

Need to wrestle the computer from the kids to post any pics. Can't do it from my ipad.
Here's a link to a thread featuring supanimals good looking 8'7".

There's a thread just below that one on carbon longboards which should have a reef runner pic or two as well.

Lacey that hotlog you rode is a nice board in clean conditions.

So your board will have side bites, you've given it some rocker, you've fattened out the nose,so what is this model surely it can't be named a hotlog.

I think its better to have them, for $30 odd bucks extra its a shame to wish you had them later.

And probably a good idea Sometimes little side biters will help it break it's straight line if it's got **** loads of volume..
