I used to have a Holden Commodore wagon that would fit my big 10' board in nicely with all the seats folded down, but silly me I sold it when I stopped surfing for a while.

Now I am working next to the coast and leaving my board on my sedans' roof racks throughout the day while I wait for the after-work surf is just not an option (secure parking, but I don't like melted wax ).

Are there any other cars like the Commodore wagon that are 10' longboard friendly? I don't think an Excel or Mazda wagon would be long enough.

If you want cheap and cheerful but new'ish with air con / power steer and mod con's in your car look at a Hyundai i30 s/wagon.

I had one for a while while my X-Trail was having some issues and it fit a 10'6 Munoz in through the back to the passenger parcel shelf no worries which the X-Trail does not.

You can pick them up for great prices, very good on fuel, comfy to drive and 2 boards inside easy.

It might fit 10'0... but you would be stuffing around with laying the passenger seat flat... and it would be a horrible squeeze... Probably smash the tail and/or nose!!

10 foot will fit I was talking to a guy at Byron who had a 10 footer in is Subaru.I asked what size board he had in the car as it looked 9.6 he said 10 foot mate fits all day every day.

Good heavens Mr supanimal, is that a ladies car ?

I just put down a deposit on a ford mondeo wagon. Good size, excellent milage (1100km from a tank allegedly). Will post a test report in a few weeks time.

My Volkswagen Transporter fits a 10 footer. It's also a camper, complete with a fridge and a 3/4 bed that folds up to a seat.

It's also for sale with good rego, tyres and a pop top roof.

So what are you going to get around in MR?

I dont understand why we dont have a newer version of the mitsubishi L300 wagon.

We get the Delicas but curved roof, full of carpet etc not surf mobile friendly as old box shape.

You can get an imported all wheel drive toyota hiace but wished they came in 4wd version as they are perfect. Fits a decent quiver in including long boards and still room for family.

Got to be able to lock up extra boards so when you are hunting surf you have all conditions covered.

Yeah I agree - I always liked those beasts....never had the privilege of owning one but thought long and hard about it as an option many a time.....one of the boys up here has one but its on its last legs - its had a good life!! I think they might be getting a bit long in the tooth now. Imagine a new one with one of those nice fuel efficient diesel engines - would be heaven.

Jeepers.....I drive the even smaller version The Getz....love it!!! It fits 2 boards inside piece of piss (a 5'10' and a 6'6') and is cheap as chips to run. Perfect for my commuting lifestyle

My fiancés' Pathfinder fits the longboard in ok and her 9'5" 666. Great vehicle but not too flash on the fuel. Fine for her as she only drives 10 mins to work.....and its great for the camping missions. Loves some off-road action! The 1996-2005 versions are essentially the same - you can pick a decent one up for about $6k. Make sure the timing belt gets done at 200k though - can be an expensive oversight if you do not do them from all reports!! Great machine. I had the older version pathfinder for 12 years and it went like a dream....the newer one is a complete joy in comparison from both a power and comfort point of view. Just terrible on the fuel - be warned!!!!!

Mr 62mac, I was a long time lurker before signing up on Seabreeze. I recall Mr Supanimal couldn't decide if he was a longboarder, short boarder, stand up paddle boarder or an OC1 person. The term 'Arthur or Martha' springs to mind. I must say, a rather confused individual. Great to see he enjoys the ocean and inland waterways I say.

Well... In the end I got a 2006 Commodore Wagon. I know I know it's a pretty heavy drinker, but I got it for a good price, and it's a car I know will go the distance.
