Had 2 great sessions yesterday on my Tyler 9'6" stepdeck in clean lined up 2-3 footers. Forgot just how much fun this type of board can be! The weight gives so much momentum over dead spots, the trim from the flat rocker, the stalling pivot turns....... I just love these narrower nose/wide hippy tail, rolled bottom no concave boards, but dislike really wide nosed noseriders. The Involvement type boards force you to slow down, stand tall, and really think about your turns. Surprisingly they can whip off a great turn. The Tyler has a thinned out step deck nose which takes some swing weight out, but being volan is still heavy. Have a hankering for a McTavish or similar, perhaps a little lighter. Anyone riding an Involvement or even pig style board? Or knows of one for sale? Cheers.

I had an old Bennett pig some years back with a big D fin on it. It was ok but a newer one would be nice . Hawaiian Pro Designs (yak) do a nice pig as does McT .

Thanks mate, I actually saw them this morning when I checked the website! I emailed McTavish earlier in the week and asked their advice re sizing- they were very helpful as always, and suggested something in the 9'9" to 10' range based on my height and weight. Good advice, as my Tyler log at 9'6" by 22 3/4" by 3" sometimes feels a bit small due to pinched rails- they are not high volume boards as rails are refined, noses are thin and relatively narrow. The Shop Next Door has a 9'4" for $1350- bargain for a lighter smaller surfer!

Have you seen the prices Tyler is charging for boards these days?

CRAZY................

$2950 US.

Just for a comparison - A Bing will run you around $1200 odd US (give or take a couple of hundred)

Both prices are without shipping and conversion to AUS $$$.

Yep they're dear- and he sells every one he makes. As I've posted before, best crafted/finished board I've ever seen- absolutely exquisite. Every one shaped by hand too- no machine shapes. Cult following in Japan. He's also an amazing surfer- google him surfing- big bloke, throws around big boards with ease.

A lot of nice boards up for sale at reasonable prices atm...shame I'm banned from buying anymore boards this year...& I've only bought 2

There is something wrong there. I am saving for my third this year. Sorry to rub it in. And fifth in the last twelve months. Don't tell She Who Must Be Obeyed though.

We made a family decision that it's part of the past and not the now or future so the wall art will be relevant to now and not then....so here it is !

Just priced a Hairclip Tyler board for $1100.00 or $1300.00 with gloss. Didn't sound too bad but the exchange from Aussie dollars is the killer at the moment. 76.5 cents to the green back. Makes for an expensive midlength. Would be really nice but I don't think we can complain to much with some of the local shapers we have access to.
