Not sure how it works - not sticky and not like sandpaper , but definitely no slipping and looks magic on the board

Been looking at all these wax alternatives and didn't like most of them. Not that I tried any because I don't even have a board ATM.

But when I grow up and am 75 I might get a board and then I can try it.

kneeboard mate got the rail and centre grip to try it out - thanks for the heads up about to order a full board kit for a footboard ( 6 ft 6 ).
TBH ordered it so long ago can't remember the cost - think it was about $40

yep Cove pads - comes with some pretty good instructions - love step 1 - crack a beer it takes about an hour

It was very light weight very thin, you had to look twice to see it, I'd say it's a great product felt great looked great but as I said I'm a wax man.

Pretty cool if that stuff works in your water temp. Have you tried it without booties yet?

How did you find installing the big sheets with the wet application (the videos make it look easy but I find big sheets more fiddly, my experience is with VersaTraction)?

Do you think Gryptalite could cause slight abrasions at all when getting tired / lazy or having to jam a foot down quickly (like covered below)?

Just as a background on my experience with VersaTraction:
All my boards have been waxless for a couple of years and I think it is worth the investment.
I have VersaTraction on 4 boards (the big sheets on one cut to suit, and the hexagons on the other 3) and most recently RSPro Cork with a little Clear on the other.
Hexagons are not listed on the official VersaTraction website so I am presuming Mark at Riley Balsa has the hexagons cut locally (he lists them as hexagon samples on his website and eBay). Every now and then on boards with the VersaTraction hexagons I can get a little abrasion on my left knee (which is on my front foot as a natural footer, mainly on my 9 foot mal, a 5mm piece size, always the same spot) and the odd little abrasion on the inside of my rear foot if I have to jam my foot down quickly. It only seems to happen on the boards with the hexagons "samples" so I am presuming they are cut a little roughly.
The hexagons also work well on older boards with pressure dings. Not sure if the big sheets would handle pressure dings on older boards as well - I can imagine more air bubbles to deal with during application.
The clear VersaTraction works great under foot when standing, there is no slipping at all. It grips every time and works fine with or without booties.
Under chest when paddling and under the hands when duck diving, VersaTraction is less grippy compared to wax. Sometimes early in a session I notice a little bit of lateral movement but you get used to it quickly and your technique adjusts. That's the biggest difference you might notice - that and when sitting on the board.
The RSPro Cork definitely has more traction than the clear, particularly noticeable under chest when paddling, and would have the closest feel to foam traction and wax. Obviously not sticky like wax but high traction when wet. I think most wax lovers and most foam pad lovers would like the cork.
I think the big take away on these wax alternatives is that they are grippy when wet, but never sticky. If you love sticky, keep using wax.

Ahhh, dark colours and wax... My 9 footer is dark purple and years ago on a hot day I once saw the wax turn to liquid right before my eyes, must have only taken 30 seconds... only happened once that bad but it was crazy. With VersaTraction on that like on your Dick Van Stralen, no melting problems. The boards always look super clean too.

Thanks for the report on smoothie rubber. I had heard that initially but don't have a wetsuit with smoothie to test. Will be sure to avoid in the future. It feels like cork wouldn't be a problem with smoothie rubber btw. Me too, never tried any of this grip without rashie - anticipate that might feel a little slippery too with the clear.

The cork would look awesome on a Sunova board - cork on timber looks sweet. The Cork grip is the most expensive RSPro option but it is worth it. You might need 3 front foot packs for a full deck 8 footer? You could also mix the Cork Front Deck Grip (4 long strips) with a couple packs of Front Deck Hexa Grip? Only used mine a few times so can't comment on longevity of the cork but the feel is unreal.

Did you go the full board VersaTraction or the hexagon samples? Would love to see a pic of your DvS. Have you noticed any slight abrasions here or there?

ps Would love a report on the 8 ball. I am looking for an 8 footer, but more longboard shape and ride.
I wish Sunova made a shrunken down longboard at 8 foot, the longevity for traveling would be excellent.

Great call. The cork is pricey. I had a quick look for some cheaper cork options and found a few things (including some small dots) in the states but wasn't sure if the adhesive would be waterproof. I presume the grip would be just as nice though. If you have a crack with any cork alternatives, would love to hear how you go.

Got myself a Torq 6'10 Mod Fish TET-CS with 5 x futures boxes, yes Asian pop out but an absolutely awesome board.

6'10 just seems to be my perfect length and around 46L my perfect volume.

Will be looking to gryptalite it if I can find the coin, but for now waxed.

Anyway I'm still messing around with fin combo's. Ran the large sanctum flex tip 169mm futures and loved the feel when I got enough drive from the wave, as all know fairly hard to get decent drive from twins alone.

Was wanting to run some 1/2" depth small futures side bites behind them for some added drive and was wondering of you have done something like this? I can't find any 1/2 futures small side biters?

I like the Sanctum FCS ones but they don't make 1/2 Futures base.

Any recommendations?

I used to have a pair of the trailers from the T1 set but now only have one. I also use a pair of the TMF-1 trailers sometimes.
Cheapest way is to buy the Sanctum sidebites and sand the bases to fit the boxes. I've done that ages ago with a set of thruster side fins I didn't use and it worked.
Although that was when they used to make the bases solid and now most of the futures bases I see are ventilated to make them lighter which could be problematic...also worth calling Sanctum and they may have some trailers they would sell seperately like the rears out of the split keel quad set.
I regularly ask to dig through the odds and ends fins box under the counter of my local surfshop which can bear fruit.

I have only one of those "boards that got away"... 6'0" Walden Magic Fish (I had the GSI version). Bloody awesome. Super fast, great trim and would paddle onto anything. Not sure what I was thinking selling it. Doh!

I use these "3DFins Dimpster Stabilizer fin" (sic) as a Futures centre stabiliser (and the Futures TMF-1's that CuttleFish mentioned) in a couple of wide tailed twin and quad boards. These are 1.69 inches / 43mm high, smaller than the TMF-1 by a little, and seem really small when you hold them. Whilst not 1/2 inch, two of these in the rear quad slots could probably do the job for you. Worth a shot.

I used to have a pair of the trailers from the T1 set but now only have one. I also use a pair of the TMF-1 trailers sometimes.
Cheapest way is to buy the Sanctum sidebites and sand the bases to fit the boxes. I've done that ages ago with a set of thruster side fins I didn't use and it worked.
Although that was when they used to make the bases solid and now most of the futures bases I see are ventilated to make them lighter which could be problematic...also worth calling Sanctum and they may have some trailers they would sell seperately like the rears out of the split keel quad set.
I regularly ask to dig through the odds and ends fins box under the counter of my local surfshop which can bear fruit.
