http://www.mctavish.com.au/surfboard/62Mac-model

Description
The 62Mac is a classic board blended with a little bit of high performance. We took the Redline and the Fireball and fused them together. It will perform in a wide range of conditions, with a slight orientation to classic riding, but you can jam it hard off the bottom if you want to. It's a classic looking board available in triple stringer, splayed stringers, or single stringer. Only available in tints and pigments. We can do this board in rounded pin, square, and we can even cut a diamond into the tail. Available as either a single, or with side bites. By custom order only.

I'll go 50/50 on the naming rights on this one, great mind simondo

From my understanding the Fireball square tail has a flatter rocker than the pintail version.
The UFO comes standard with pulled in nose and pintail.
The Redline comes standard with triple stringers.

So size wise the new log would be 9.6 x 23 x 3.

So what do you guys think

Why ? And why not try something different ? I reckon that Gleave model would give you all the glide and trim speed in small waves and probably better performance off the tail than a Redline. They might even have a demo.

i'm thinking the older lb crew amongst you shabby lot could start using table tennis batons for paddling up the point and earn some money on the side by guiding the jets into the airport as your waiting for waves.

of course that would mean no thermos of coffee out on the shoulder.

word has it the cops are going to work with the coolie gate keepers and you guys will get 'special armbands'. how cool is that

In my opinion you should be revisiting the Liberator with it's pre-fireball evo' rocker - so a real liberator and your boring old dimensions of 9.3 x 23 x 3 would be perfect for that board due to its flatter rocker and need to be driven off that wider tail.

You guys (and others) can bleet on all day about the evo models but IMO they ruined the fireball by putting more rocker in it - the original fireball and liberator (same board different tail) were the best boards Mctavish ever made - period.

Foxsup your sounding more and more like BillboardWhats up with BB I miss him

So the FB square tail has a flatter rocker than the standard FB is that correct

I stick with 23 x 3 because it works for me boring maybe,I do go up and down in length tho

I don't know what rocker difference there is nowdays between round tail and square tail fireballs.

As you already know, traditionally (more than 5yrs ago) the fireball and the liberator were EXACTLY the same board EXCEPT for the tail shape. I believe the liberator may have fallen by the wayside due to the fact that the fireball with its pulled in tail was simply an easier board to turn for the averages surfer, whereas the liberator needed a bit of power/experience to break that wider tail loose and really get the board going.

Mac - I believe for someone who surfs the way you do and in the place you do then the traditional flatter rockered liberator would be absolutely amazing. It will paddle in better, be way faster down the line, trim and noseride better and be better in small waves than the newer "evo" fireballs. I was only having a dig about your dimensions because I believe that 9.3 x 23 x 3 is probably the perfect dimension for a Mctavish fireball/liberator for anyone over 80kg - and if some kind hearted soul were ever to buy me a Mctavish I would be ordering a "Liberator" at 9.3 x 23 x 3 (and I am only a relative pissant compared to the man mountain you are)
