Ride a SUP and you will get the core muscle and proprioceptor training you miss paddling prone.

I recall reading a story in late 80's about former Ironman Guy Leach getting crook often as he was superfit and it affected his immune system. So I thought fark it I just won't train period and I haven't been crook since.

Very funny Scotty I subscribe to the theory that you are only born with a certain amount of heart beats and need to conserve them so keep your heart rate down as much as you can

The best weight loss i ever had was kick boxing. Loved it but sadly with kids getting three or four nights a week is too hard.

I agree that the pool is boring but found it the best for shoulders.

I find a really good surf is often all i need to get me motivated. When i feel good (eat right, bit of exercise) i surf so much better. For me i box for fitness Thursday, run Tuesday nights, try and bike ride a few times and if only could get back in to pool. That and surf at least once or twice a week. Its keeping me steady but not losing any weight so that's why need to pool back.

Being on the wrong side of 40 also doesn't help any

Bingo boofy. On a more serious note, I also recall an ex ironman from Surfers surf club called Peter Lacey who died I reckon 10+ years ago. This guy by all accounts was still superfit at the time of his heart attack with lead to him passing away too early at the prime age of 50.

Some people have trouble putting weight on, me I have trouble keeping it off.

After many years the I have discovered the best way to control weight is to control what goes in your mouth. And that sucks.

Swimming helps improve my paddle fitness and I have just started doing some excersizes to try and improve my take offs like jumping over a football back and forward for 30 sec to try an increase leg speed.

I am also finding a challenge surfing smaller boards and it helps when I go back on my reguar board.

So where does the Rolling Stones fit into this thread ? For example, Keith Richards abuses his body and mind with every drug available and is still kicking today and nearly dies falling out of a farkin coconut tree in Fiji a few years ago. I'm sure that is NOT the way he would want to go.

if you after an enjoyable read get hold of a copy of this book

The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star by Nikki Six of Motely Crue fame.

After reading that book you wonder how on earth he survived!!!!!!

Back on topic a very good friend of mine ex high profile premiership winner grand final player award winner ex coach who trained the house down for well over 20 years, looses weight from not training go figure.

You read too often about the health nut who died too young,is this an over load on the body, you also hear about the smoking drunk who lasts for ever.I believe its in the make up!

Old smokers drinkers with heart disease grow extra coronary arteries around their obstructed ones so when they go down with a massive hearty they sometimes still manage to get blood flow so survive. Young fit people that have massive hearties from obstruction in blood vessels dont have these extra blood vessels so they kark it

its all about motivation...it varies with what frame of mind im in(chrispys world is a strange world)
my day starts with stretching on the ball while checking seabreeze and the abc news,roughly1/2hour. if i dont stretch i cant walk.
i ride my treadly to the shops for groceries and generally try to walk most places.
i skate everyday, whether it be on the longboard or skating bowls.
generally will surf everyday if healthy.

yes im with mac about genetic makeup. yet in saying that im still trying to clean my act up a bit, because i can really notice the difference in how i am

on the smoking bit,my mate fell asleep while his house was burning down and the only reason he lived was because his lungs were so farked,go figure

i feel honored that i met a man who lived to 104 he had the most amazing stories and as sharp as a tac, he wasn't a smoked or a drinker lived on a farm and worked hard also he didnt use a walking stick.
the sad thing was when he died he had a very small funeral,he outlived two wives and all of his friends

RIP Bill

Mate if she's being saying that to you for longer than 10 years it's not binge drinking, it's a lifestyle

@ Chrispy, yeah 30 is the age the recovery powers leave the body, the one I put up was one we used to do to get surf fit, when we were younger, It hurt like hell then, hate to do it now, my idea of exercise now is a pushy or skatie ride and body surfing during the warmer months. And surf as much as I can, try and stretch everyday2.
