Just after dawn yesterday morning with it being flat and all I figured I'd do an updated quiver shot of my boards. Nice and early and the wife still tucked up in bed so safe enough. The sun was already hitting the front of the shed where the boards reside in the rafters. Started lining them up alongside the side of the shed around the grassed side where the light was even but the roof line was lower than around the front of the shed. 8 to line up. The 4'2" bellyboard, 6'McCoy astron zot, 6'8" Takayama scorpion, 6'10" G&S magic fish, 7'6" Diverse GM, 8' Beachbeat pacer, 8'2" Michael Cundith islander and finally 9' DVS reef runner, full carbon fibre, ex Dick's personal board (or reef rider as Simondo is mistakenly calling it). All of them except the reef runner fit under the eaves of the shed. The reef runner has to lean against the roof as it's a tad too long. It's a dead calm morning. I realise I've left my Ipad and phone which I am going to take the pics with inside so I scoot in to get them. You can guess what happens next! Just picking up the phone and Ipad when I hear a crash, followed by other bangs and clangs. I'm out the door and round the corner like a shot but its all too late but to see the carnage. All but 3 of the boards are now in a tangled heap. The DVS has fallen and dominoed! It's hit the fin of the pacer with its rail (fin chopped rail) then hit the Takayama (another crack in the rail) then after its started the chain reaction taking out the Diverse (no damage I've spotted so far) and the McCoy (again no damage I've spotted so far) the heavily glassed G&S has eventually fallen on top of the DVS. The G&S's CI robber twin fin is now firmly embedded in the deck of the carbon DVS. Only last week I'd taken the DVS to my local ding repair wizard to fix a tiny shatter on the rail up near the nose to make sure it was water tight. So yesterday afternoon it was back for multiple reconstructive surgeries. The DVS had always been a board for un-crowded conditions since it is rare as **** being one of Dick's personal boards and glassed with a much finer carbon weave than he makes for sale. It has also has a beautiful foil and refined rails since it was made for Dick's lighter weight than my hulking frame. Oh well! It's now battle scarred and so next time its on at my local point and crowded it will join the fray! I didn't end up taking the quiver shot after all. Maybe another day.
Btw Simondo, How'd you like the DVS? Had a ball riding my reef runner in knee to waist high waves early last week which is outside its job description but it goes so well in small beachbreak waves that are imitating a point wave. Also where is it and how long is that carbon fish? Not trying to bug you but it'll have an eps core just like your reef runner. Only the Avisos made in the US are hollow.
Thanks Ted. I love them and all but they are but toys for the ocean in the big scheme of things. Anyone want to buy a G&S magic fish. It's out on bail while awaiting trial on an attempted murder charge of a DVS. The motive is jealousy. The G&S caught me riding the DVS.
