Yep - bloke stopped to help me, went and got a trolley jack. I walked back and found all 5 wheel nuts - don't get distracted just after you have lowered the car off the jack after changing a wheel - all my fault.
We managed to dig a hole to get the VW jack in, raised it enough to get the trolley jack under, and jack it up. Two of the wheel nuts were stripped and useless, got 3 done up and borrowed a fourth from the back wheel. Drove Phillip Island to Melbourne stopping every 20 minutes to check everything was tight. And worrying a lot.
This was Wednesday, meant to be driving to Merimbula Monday, thought that trip was done. But Thursday afternoon our work mechanic came past with a new set of wheel nuts, retapped the threads in the hub, fixed everything and we are good to go.
I was going around the roundabout in the background when the wheel started to depart - luck not to tip the van over.

Had a Cortina 6 cyl in back in the day , the rear drivers wheel came off on a surf trip but at least with studs you get some warning , got bad vibration so thought flat tyre slow down .. bang ...wheel passed us ... so drifted down hill across a bridge sideways & onto a grass verge outside Oakura Taranaki.. every Stud sheared off most probably from vibration fatigue from buckled rim ..

Rate probably 9 out of 10.
When I get a new one I will go the 4 motion 4WD version.

Interior comfy enough, probably been updated since this one which is 2010 I think.

I'm set up mostly as a surf van - bed in place from Daughter 2 recently doing a trip up the east coast in it. Bed removes to leave narrower storage boxes / seat.

Good height - I have a gear hanging rack and paddles stored under the ceiling.

Passenger side - this one has a manual key so I can lock phone, wallet, and remote key in the glovebox, then lock the car with the manual key and take it with me in the water around my neck.

Gear drying hanging space, rear kitchen.

It has a 240 volt inverter running off an auxiliary battery to power the microwave and griller. Fridge runs off the aux battery too. I have a single burner butane stove in one of those drawers for other cooking.
