I think Crescent is about halfway. Plenty of empty beachies that time of year and the point.

Boofy I can do the first and third w/e's in June no problem. Happy to also drive 5hrs - which almost puts me in Coffs - so just north of that is doable as well.

Point Plomer is a nice option as well with loads of beaches, a few right hand points and open fires allowed whilst camping.

I shall leave it up to you locals to make the call on location.

Never been to Pt Plomer, the campsite looks interesting, very basic, no hot showers, bring your own drinking water, no power.

But it's right beside the water and it's only 17 clams a day if you include the $7 a day National Park entry fee.

When I used to go away in the buggy, a place like that would have been considered a luxury resort, most of the time we just made a camp in the middle of the scrub beside a creek.

It's just a pity that if you're coming at it from the south in a 2WD, you really need to go all the way to Kempsy, then back track through Cresent to get there, rather than go north from Port Mac.

I've got a Rav4 that would probably do it, but I would prefer not to try it.

possibly, they're at me to get rid of leave days, and we don't have much happening at work around that time. Plus we have friends at Port that keep insisting we pop in and see them.

I used to camp reguarly at Pt Plomer, wifes dad had a mate who lived there in one of the fishing shacks, mind you this guy was a multi millionaire, just chose to live like a castaway. Great spot.

Dont come up from Port Macquarie the road will swallow a Rav4, really bad. The road from Crescent is generally Ok, no need for 4WD, just potholed gravel.

I think these days there are showers and tiolets at the camp ground but you will need to bring all your own supplies.

There's a beach behind Plomer with a couple of rock platforms on it. I dragged some good bream out there just using bread and its a good blackfish spot as well. I'll put some pics up of the area but I don't have pics of the camp site because I stayed at Crescent.

I think Stu said it but I wouldn't be coming up the track from port, with the new highway upgrades just 110 it all the Kempsey. If your super keen for a wave on the way up, do the 10 minute trip of the highway and have a surf at StuK's local, closet wave to the highway and also a great wave on its day.

As for your camping options

Plomer is good to camp at, kangaroos and stuff hopping around but is about 20 mins from Creso so if you want to go to the pub it's a little bit of a trek and you'd have to DUI it past the local cop shop to get home. Not that I'm encouraging drink driving

There is also a camp site at delicate nobby, which is between Creso and Plomer & is very basic.

Creso is the pick if you want a pub and a few shops but also Creso is the most crowded surf spot. But there are heaps of other surf options all the way down to Plomer. We always tried to stay at Creso, surf it early than head down the dirt track later in the day to somewhere less crowded and protected from whatever direction the wind is.
Creso also has a great night golf course, it's free after 10 pm

Then if you go north you hit Hat Head,
Probably a 20 minute drive up a great fishing beach. Has camping etc and a bowling club.
Also has a really protected South point to that can on very rare occasions get fairly good. Then another stretch of good fishing and surfing beach to you hit South west rocks, smoky cape.

A mate and I did the dirt road trip from Plomer to the ferry at Port Macquarie and it was a nightmare. The road probably hasn't changed much.

Heard the track between the ferry and plommer was "OK" atm, took the Forester down it couple years back and other than some washboard with soft sand it was fine. Then again with all the rain atm I'm sure it's ruined.

I could be in, need to have a look at the calendar. Is it Cressent or further north?
