Regarding AnyrooMac's comment about needing to turn off the tail I can tell you the way Steve shapes these whalebone's they'll turn from a long way forward from just the tail. I've watched so many guys struggling to even get to a point to pop up let alone worrying about where they're turning the board from because they don't have enough volume in the right places. IMO a board of 9'8-10' is exactly what's needed here, and width is also your friend. Talk to Steve 0417 912 207 and tell him the LB guys sent ya.

Hey I want a cut of the commission

But yes call the man get your order in NOW tell Steve mac sent you first bound to add some value to the purchase price

BEER is still more than welcomed by SDR. His HERBALIFE diet is going great guns I have been told

On the board size,I understand what most of you are saying about a massive board being easier to catch waves, etc etc. Yet if he is just on ****ty beach break waves that big board will just be a death trap imo. What happened to the miller gang with it paddles like a Mal etc etc, thought you blokes would be all over it

So it will make a difference what sort of waves you surf. Plenty of big boy boards out there that aren't air craft carriers

Maybe talk to Steve Del Rosso about the Whalebone. More of an all arounder and I think a few crew have them and seem to rave about them .

As his website is pretty hopeless best to call and chat to him.

9'6"
18.5 22 5/8. 14 1/2.
2 5/8

hi again. Thanks for the replies. The specs above are for a board I have found at a very reasonable price in used condition.

i have the chance to look at it later this week.

The he weight is still dropping off, under 115 now so hopefully will hit 100 by Christmas.

would you guys say that this is big and thick enough?

At 22 5/8" x 2 5/8 I personally wouldn't consider it unless your paddle fitness is right up there, no point wearing yourself out just paddling around.

Just my opinion.

What they said, you need at least 3" to 3 1/8' thickness and 24' wide...

Size matters dude, that extra inch of width and thickness makes all the difference broo, ask your missus, I'm sure she'll agree

Hi mate.

Just had a chance to read through some of the comments and thought I'd suggest these;

shop.surfindustries.com/us/brands/modern-surfboards/

I have the 7'2 / 7'6 and 8'0 and can give nothing but absolute glowing reports on them for both quality, finish, shape, price and performance.

If you don't want a longboard but want to cruise on a 'big guy shortboard' rather than longboard, these will do the trick.

Cheers. they look really nice. Once I have learnt how to do the basics I might look into one of these.

If you don't go overboard on options (like most of the guys in here) "custom" boards are a reasonable price.

SDR's a great guy and will know the local breaks as he spent quite a few years over there. I'd say give him a call.

I'm 107 and ride a 9'6" SDR.
