As a longboarder i know i can take more waves than shortboarders. So sitting out the back there is generally a little respect amongst the longboard crowd and i always let a few dregs go through to the punters if im out numbered.
Seriously though you can tell the GOOD longboard surfers, they tend to wait and only go for quality waves and take their time in the line up.

Interesting statement - it really depends on where you surf and the waves you surf from my experience. Most places I surf - a longboard would not work. But when conditions are on I love getting my one out. When its on though the last place you would want to be would be on a longboard

totally know what you mean, i have been on abit of a hiatus from the place lately. Its funny because i suppose snapper etc can get as busy as the pass but atleast at snapper id say 60-80% of the people out there know how to surf, where to paddle and sit etc. Whereas the pass just gets all the ****ing learners and they paddle right out the back. Its unbelievable how someone doesnt die weekly from surfing there. I know what u mean, i have started to question surfing/ living in Byron lately due to the people and the surf

you cant leave Byron ... you havent found my hat yet ??

must be due for a paddle south soon

If as a long boarder you only let the "Dregs" go through to short boarders, do you not then wonder why the short borders get agro Just because you can take all the quality waves, doesn't mean you should.

By your attitude in the above post, would you get upset if a group of 666"ers decided to sit even further out, and take all the quality waves, only occasionally letting the dregs through to the long boarders

You need to share around in a line up, if you don't want to do that then okay, but you then cant complain when it turns into a free for all..And people start to get agro

Theres just no point getting upset.. It ruins your day and eventually everyone else's also..

I guess there are spots were simple numbers in the water means it going to get touchy..But i guess the positive is you then also get a opportunity to surf some real quality waves..

Friendliest surf's still was in Hawaii.

I find it usually doesn't come to blows...generally a look is enough to let someone know they have ****ed up...my local has pretty tight crew who have it wired and know you can take off deep...kooks on the shoulder get no respect

I've got a pretty big advantage getting waves but always mindful of letting plenty go but there's always whingers and it's usually by guys riding under volumed boards that are struggling to catch waves. A good surfer will always get his waves .

Annoyingly true. I'm rarely the best surfer in the lineup.
