Micheal Jenkins is one of the nicest guys you'll meet on a SUP. His passion for the sport, particularly the 10 foot SUP class is well known.
MJ as he is affectionately known, has donated his awesome art pieces to various events around the country and there is always a list of hopefuls wanting to get hold of one. MJ has generously donated one of his unique pieces to The Middle Harbour SUP Challenge.
Measuring 600mm x 800mm the artwork is made from "recycled" Balinese number plates that MJ has collected over the years. Along with the addition of some old signage, this is an art piece that would look striking on any wall. (particularly mine)
One lucky paddler will leave the presentation with this awesome piece. Thanks for your generous sponsorship @Micheal Jenkins.
There's a spot on the trailer with "MJ" written on it................
We may even strap his board onto the trailer as well!
Anyone who paddles knows what a great apparel brand Vaikobi is. The crew at Vaikobi were pretty excited to come on board for our event and they're supporting us with heaps of great gear for our competitor give away at the presentation.
well done and nice sponsors on this paddock
this looks like the wimbledon of sup and I might make an appearance oneday and do the sheep race.

Still excellent value as your entry gets you a $90 paddling top, the race, heaps of prizes at the preso as well as free food and grog ( or softie). Great value. To view the 5km course, jump onto the event Instagram page. " The Middle Harbour SUP Challenge" There's a great little fly over if the course.
The 10km course won't be released until the day. Will you need a flatwater or a bump board?
Paddled the 5 km course yesterday
Ran down to Balmoral on the westerly breeze and came back with a south westerly and the tide with me
Great course and just enough challenge around the "Chinamans Wall area" at the end of the beach.
Good course looking forward to racing some old mates in the over 50's unlimited division
Then a few quiet beers and stories back at the club after.
I am not saying how quick (read slow I was ) as I don't want to tip off Nozza and the Vicos.
Aloha
We are extremely excited to announce that one of the top female paddlers in Australia will not only be racing next Sunday but she'll be running a kids' clinic as well. Come down and meet Karla Gilbert and watch how fast she is on the water. Karla is one of the nicest paddlers you'll ever meet. The level of elite paddler at our event just jumped up a notch or two.
ON LINE ENTRIES CLOSE WEDNESDAY 5pm. A NEWSLETTER WITH ALL EVENT INFO WILL BE SENT TO ALL COMPETITORS ON THURSDAY MORNING.
IF YOU WANT THE LATEST UP TO DATE INFO YOU NEED TO ENTER ON LINE.
ENTRY ON THE DAY WILL BE $70.

Nozza's unlimited fun class is looking more and more appealing by the day!...only kidding!

Ha!
After Hugo's admission of cheating by going for a paddle before hand, the Vicco elites in the over 50's Unlimited Fun Class commenced secret training at (MHSC - 7) yesterday.
I selected Beaumaris Bay as most closely replicating Middle Harbour, and struck out on a 5 km paddle, with the first 2km at a gruelling "Embarassing" pace.
After upping the tempo to "Pathetic" for the next 2km, the last k was done at "Meandering".
Not sure if the requirement to carry a broken plastic chair on the board for the final km will be enforced, but practised that just in case.
Stand by for (MHSC - 6 report)
Aloha to you too!
Nozza
I am beginning to think that unlimited should mean 17' 4" and not shorter or lighter than at least 17 KGs
That board of your looks much smaller and lighter. 16' and hollow ,no.
I also carry a chair but i sit down for the last Kilometre so i don't fall down.
I was thinking that i might replace my crappy stainless steering wire with some go fast spectre like yours but not sure if that would disqualify me from the "Gentlemen Paddlers Association".
Training would have been a very loose way to describe my ambling drift around the harbour. You might have noted that i drifted down tide and wind to Balmoral sat on the beach and waited for a wind change to be blown back up to the club. Total time 6 hours.
I asked Sam if there was going to be a cut-off time for the 5km paddle and he said the free beer starts at 2pm so i reckon that is my self imposed cut-off.
Any way I am a betting man so last one back to the bar shouts first round.
What is Helmy paddling, He should give us a handicap start, say 3 beers before leaving the sand.
Tried desperately to paddle today but to much smoke which I judged as terribly unhealthy for a finely tuned athlete like myself.
I guess tomorrow maybe.
What sort of paddle do you use, as i may be able to get you disqualified on a technicality or some thing
See you on the start line
Hugo
The race on Sunday is aimed at being a family event. The club bistro will be open and we have access to both viewing decks. This is an event where your family can watch you race, as the course will come into the club beach 3 times.
There'll be kids races following the 10km race as well as a kids' clinic with paddling legend Karla Gilbert.
The presentation will kick off at 2pm with a substantial amount of food and drink being supplied free to competitors. The bar will be open all afternoon.
GREMMO HOMES joins as a major event sponsor of The Middle Harbour SUP Challenge.
The support we are getting for our event has been sensational. For an event like ours to move forward into the future we need support from outside of the SUP industry so we're really excited to welcome David and the team at GREMMO HOMES on board as a major event sponsor. David was keen to support our event early in the piece and his involvement along with the other non SUP industry sponsors has enabled us to provide our competitors with an experience not normally had at a SUP event.
Gremmo Homes is owned and operated by four brothers, who are all involved in the building process. Michael, Andrew, Richard and David maintain a desire to provide homes for their clients which are unsurpassed in design, quality and individuality.
