Yes, the neighbour across the road is old school mal rider, he and I were out for an hour that day, at the same time. He waits out the back for set waves only - I had 10 waves in my surf and he had two. I did paddle down the beach to get a larger left handed in. Too fat wave really for a mal or short board. Steve

OK - could be interesting - with the tri fin setup, do you just pull out the centre fin? Need diff size side fins? Nubster even?
Would this style of surfing be harder on the knees? Feedback please. Asher Pacey looks a lot more flexible than me. BUT could it work at my local break on the small wave days? Anybody surf this setup - ie " the hipster twin" Steve

Well worthy of an read to see whats working for others in sub par conditions.
Scotty has speced his fins to the boards BEST performance.

I tried my hipster with twin c- drives and a nubster. It was fun but I preferred the twins with nubster as supplied. To me the c-drives turned a little easier but lacked the drive and acceleration, particularly out of the bottom turn. The smik fins also seemed to have less drag than the c-drives. I'm thinking the bonza bottom channels combined with less drag from twin fins plus nubster would be a speed machine down the line, with good grip and drive out of the bottom turn.

Sounds good will try board with a nubster centre fin as an alternative for hollow faster beachies?

Yeah but you'll need bigger side fins to compensate for the small centre fin. Twins will surf more like a quad than thruster. I prefer it.

Cannot find any specs ie: fin sizes for bonzer or hipster on the Smik site - can you measure your hipster fins from board surface to tip and I can compare with mine - see if they are same or diff! Had some great Quobba futures to try out BUT that didnt work out. What sort of fins are in Smik boards?

Be great to hear Scott's thoughts on this. Obviously the hipster twin was specifically designed for twin fins, although I can't see why they wouldn't work on the Bonza. I'll measure my fins and let you know sizes. Smik are FCS not futures. If you want to wait a little while I have a Bonza on the way in a couple of weeks and I'll take it for a spin with the twins and let you know how it goes.

Took the bonzer out this morning in waist high point surf - tried out hipster twin/nubster fins. SMOOTH WITH SPEED - YAHOO!!!! Vid coming when bigger surf comes along.

Sorry abt delay - been out of the water for two months, first surf back was at Arrawarra ( see previous vids ). Second surf was in a bit of juice - first time on the Bonza - 70 year old, no surf for 9 weeks, beach break, sidewash off headland, out for 45 min to catch
three waves and get flogged by abt 10 while sitting inside to try and sneak a beauty. Absolutely buggerred as you can see.



this was in mid December - just surfed for an hour and half last four days running to get fit - F""K can hardly walk - so easy to lose fitness!

I was just thinking last night that you hadn't posted any feedback on the board. I was wondering how it was going. Two months = long time out of the water. I haven't been surf SUP much this year and was amazed yesterday when I went out in shoulder high relatively smooth conditions and the balance and timing were not the same. On a board that I used regularly. Gone back to more longboarding. With me SUP and prone surfing hinder each other. I should stick to the one type. Anyway just keep getting in the water and it will all come back. Please update review of the board after a you do a lot more surfing. cheers

Yes - been a trying two months - now going to a seniors gym class on tues and thurs mornings ( circuit ), also surfing and/or paddleing mon wed friday depending on conditions. Probably 25 or 30 min a day till I get back to how I was a couple of months ago - I was a confident intermediate surfer then! regards Steve
