How is it going Scottie - left the docks yet? While waiting been trying to have the odd surf - but there has been northerly winds predominating - finally decided on Sunday to have a wave at the north end of our beach under the headland. Carol said it wasn't user friendly and offered me a go on her NEW Jimmy Lewis Striker! Yaahoo. Here is the first and last wave of the session.

Today I talked Carol into going out for a surf with me on the NEW board, still not real user friendly for her tho. Will wait till it evens out with some organised swell pattern and have another go.

There you are " Jimmy Lewis Thread " regards Steve and Carol

Stehar, Your adventures in delivery remind of Scotty and I meeting in Airports.

Covid and lockdown has changed everything.

Board looks SMIKTACULAR!

Let us know how that bad boy goes!

Cheers,
Cleve-o

I bought a SUP Foilboard off Scotty and he was fantastic to communicate with via mobile phone .
I'll wish you a happy for Tuesday and later you can wish me a happy 74th birthday on the 28th.
When I turned 70 I started kite foiling and at 73.5yo Windwing foiling so you have lots of fun ahead of you.

Board arrived today - 3 fin boxes not 5 - not futures fins either! Disappointed with it!

The colour is great, handle very comfy, paddles well - we rushed straight down to local break to try out - stable and will have to do I suppose. Probably will be a very good surf sup, BUT not what I wanted -
See website blurb about 5 fin setup. No more posts on this thread!

Well
there's quite a long winded version to this story
in testing the bonza i was going back and forth between 5 fin and thruster for months confused as to which was the better set up.
it got to the point where I thought done. Thruster all round is superior so we're running with it.

which was around when steve ordered his board.

plus to run with 5 fin I couldn't supply the correct fins to go with.

and if there's one thing I do know. The correct fin set up to match the board is critical. As I found out with various centre fins with the 5 fin set up not working that wellyes I talked about 5 fin on the website, but also a number of pictures of the board set up as a thruster. But there was no communication about what fin set up was desired until after lamination on emails. (Apart from what was mentioned in this forum, but we generally don't use forums as a reference point for orders.)

and then we have the story of a Dutch customer who also ordered a 9'5 bonza. Who only wanted it as thruster. And he ended up getting a five fin version.
Doh.....
so basically it is my fault in my indecision about what the better fin set up was has lead us to now. And my I'll communication not only with the factory but the customer

the other part of this story has something to do with covid and the fact that I would normally have been in the factory every other week able to converse with the boys. so like many others we're
learning how to adapt to the new realities.

with a considerable amount of detail on all custom orders every now and again something slips through the cracks and this was one of those moments.
Every other detail of paint and pad work was spot on.
so. Where does this leave us.

i really hate to disappoint customers which was why it too so long to let steve know. Coz somehow I guessed this was coming .
so yeah. If after you've surfed this one and you're
still disappointed. We'll build you another one

Well done Scotty. Owning it.

Stuff ups happen, it's how they are dealt with that matters most.

Enjoy the board Stehar. I'm sure it's a cracker regardless.

Nice Scotty,
full credit to you for being up front on this matter. Its tough enough in business when things go smoothly let alone when info gets lost in cyberspace .. I can see why SMIK has become such a strong brand so quickly...

Good result maybe others could follow this lead.
Seems no blame either way and top customer service.
I buy a bit of gear in an attempt to make up for my lack of skill and have a very small number places I purchase gear and Scotty is one of them.

I am now 70 with arthritis and am not as good a surfer as I was! I did not think I could adapt my surfing to a thruster type setup. Been surfing single fin occasionally, but quads mainly. I have been able to adapt to the 3 fin bonzer and use longer arc turns with weight transfer, not pressure causing direction change. Scotty - I DO NOT NEED THE FIVE FIN NOW! Thank you for this incredible 3 fin bonzer. Truly didn't think I would be able to surf it. Did a cutty this morn that almost popped my knee ( pressure bandage as well) WRAPPED THANKS

The Bonzer and Striker also paddle well on flat water. Surf has been awful, so yesterday went for a leisurely paddle at Red Rock River. Both paddle fairly well in a straight line and were stable enough to stay upright when hit by boat wakes. Beautiful river system, very clean/ natural. Enjoyable! Then got to try out the new little quirky coffee lounge ( great coffee and croissants to die for ). Could very well be a weekly paddle - tide and wind dependant! Steve

Got some good waist high waves this morning, lowish tide beach break. The flattish rocker combined with the nose lift is getting me into steeper take offs and speed off the bottom turn which I can now use on down the line - had also some speed high on the wave face for a " top carve " so to speak! Speed to burn - Making it thru some almost close out sections and feeling stable ( knees not suffering ) YAHOO! Another vid soon as I can persuade Carol to put her surf on hold and film me - I will return the favor. Steve

3 rd surf - Life has been extremely stressfull and I havent done much in the last couple of weeks. Carol said GO FOR SURF! Surfing is therapeutic and I came in with a different perspective on the current situation. Even tho the surf was average - for me ( on the new Smik ) it was transforming. Thanks to my beautiful cinematographer and special thanks to my daughter Neroli for showing me how to put it together.

software package did offer download music, but I took one of their generic rock songs. Not sure about licensing stuff. Steve

Thanks Steve for posting this video. Great to see you catching waves inside the lineup, with good rides in the pocket and cutbacks. Impressive.
