I've read and been sampling all sorts of boards the last year and a half .
And I think some of my suggestions on recommending boards can be untrue .
I think it boils down to what wave and shape you surf .there are some goodies out there
that surf well in every type of wave ,but most times 2 boards are a must .
changing board too many times can stunt you goal of becoming a good SUP surfer .
I've changed board twice this last few months ,and feel Ive had to adapt my style of surfing again to adjust to the new board .Which is not working for me ..
i've now boiled it down to my weight..width and length that suits my way of surfing and the wave I surf.
also how many fins work best .
i got radical and sold two boards .
I'm going back to my x32 's .in smaller sizes now .not everybody s cup of tea but I like 32 wide boards with heaps of rocker.

have you changed boards and wish you hadn't .or never go back ever to a board you hated .

I've changed boards 4 times in 18 months. For me I was starting out so started with an oil tanker, then had a couple of different boards (one longboard style, one shortboard style) before settling on the shortboard shape but going shorter (latest board).

While it's cost a bit of money, it's all part of the journey.

I went smaller and narrower and now I am just going for a 10 foot SUP. Truth is as you get older you get lazy and I just want a good time in the surf nowadays.

I agree that once you find your happy place.....embrace and enjoy it!

At my age.... I was determined to find whatever board would maximize my performance.... before it all slips away.
I totally understand that I do NOT have time for errors.
Every other possession in my life is there, to be sacrificed to this end..

Surfing is what has always driven me... and SUP has brought me back from decline.
Variety adds to the total enjoyment.... so,I have many needs
My quest has been successful, I have found my happy place.
I now have boards that are much more capable than me.

Balls to the wall, for as long as I got the juice baby!

Creek.....I love your philosophy . We will not take one penny with us when we leave this planet .
No use saving for the retirement village either ......whilst a person is healthy , stay healthy and enjoy.
Dont believe the propaganda about living longer . It's about quality not quantity . I'd rather be taken by a shark than be stuck in an old persons home

Sometimes we have to search inside our soul. It's not about the speeed. Do it in style . Go with the flow . Don't go insane.

Sounds like you're trippin' on acid.

The search for the right board has been fun (expensive, but fun). My kids will inherit a quiver. I think I have found the right boards now - but I have said that before...

Great out look and good advise ...my search is still continuing ..for the right stick ..

let you know when I hit my happy place
when I can come off the top ,and not worry about my nose digging in,I'll be there .
Gimme that rocker .the flat rocker boards are not working for this dude .

it reminds me of my surfing days ,there was always one board that stood out .
we are lucky our boards last more than 6 months .unlike surfboards .my mates
seem to get at least 3 boards a year .then throw them away .

Yer its like a disease i reckon .... But Like SUC I feel like i wanna get too the right board before i do run outs steam or get injured ..

Been through 10 i reckon in the last 12 months.. I must be the worst... Gotta say I've had a ball playing with em tho ... And i do agree it takes a couple off sessions too learn each one But then I'm pretty good ..

So i keep trying to go smaller as i love that snappy feeling .. But yer then after a month or 2 if I'm still falling off and missing waves it i get annoyed and move on .. Best I've found so far are the Sunova Flow's and ecs turbo ..

Ive been really trying too get under the 120 litre thats my goal ..At 95 its been hard but i love it ...

If your getting a few second had too u don't loose much when reselling ...

And ha i could be gambling or something ..

Hopefully i do find the 110/115 litre weapon that ticks all the boxes ...

Hi
Yes I have sometimes returned to old boards - mix & match to the surf & conditions on the day etc., but after trial and error it is possible to to get a few really good boards & shapes that will suit YOU. I have for example found that a 7.4 Airborn is a great all round board for me when the waves are not too good but I sold it - then bought it back - then sold it again and now I have replaced it with an old 2013 7.3 Naish which is suitable, but for more performance I find the 7.4 Jp perfect and to make it a bit more stable and fun then the 7.8 Naish takes over etc., I also have found that the 8ft Vex Pro fusion is a great allrounder for the quality and price (thats if I could only ride one board) and I prefer a Deep JC for the bigger stuff. In the space of two years I have owned & surfed at least a dozen boards (both new & second hand) as well as some demos etc.?:-)
