Nah its all good mate we are all mostly guilty of doing the same thing however its normally me giving it to the kook sup surfers no issue with people who know what they are doing and respect others

Hey man, we've all been there. Some of us manifest emotional things in different ways. Frankly, at the moment I've got a bunch of screaming kids (not mine - I live in an apartment complex) in the common area going off their nuts doing what kids do (ie. running, yelling, knocking stuff over etc.) that's at a volume that is driving me bonkers. It's all I can do not to be some angry old b**tard yelling at them to keep the noise down from my balcony. It's tough to take a step back and realise it doesn't really frigging matter in the big scheme of things. A bit of noise, or someone dropping in on you, or sitting on your bank at the same time - it just doesn't matter in the big picture. I've seen bloody horrible things that will stay with me for life - and the memory of those sometimes influences how I interact with situations that don't warrant a reaction. First to admit I'm not perfect, but being aware of what the ACTUAL negatives in a situation are and responding rather than reacting can help. Not spruiking this at all, but tomorrow is Mental Health Day - find a mate who doesn't judge you, and have a chat. Unload some of the stuff that's p***ing you off, and you just might feel a little better. Usually works for me. If you're around Brissy (sorry, should've looked at your profile location!) send me a PM if you want an ear to bash. Always happy to listen and help a brother (or sister!) out if I can, even if it's just listening to what's p***ing you off

Hey quick draw got a bit of a spin about your post, up on the mid north coast at the moment we have been having a bit of a problem with some well you know dan nana nana nana na. Let just say the sharks are getting a bit friendly. On the weekend a young man was thrown into the air by a juvinile white looking for a bit of fun. He got away scot free but his board was chewed in two. Early this year a few km north a local surfer was almost eaten whole by a 5mish white out at a semi secluded break when the wave was you guessed it the same size as yours. Smallish 1-2 foot. He was riding a well laminated board and that extra glass saved his arse, literally.
So when the old guy paddled out he may have been looking for some company. To help with any incidents that might arise.
Today it was quite a good swell but there was no one out, third busiest period of the year and I repeat no one on the surf breaks from what I could see. Seems the whites around here are giving the locals cold feet. So if an old bastard paddles out just say hi and how are you going. Don't be afraid to ask him if he is a bit shark shy, you know we all are. As for getting the ****s once in a while don't stress, feel good that you apoligised and did not punch or fin chop the guy, seen plenty of that in my youth a bit of a rant is okay.
Oh and if you are on the end of the rant, I find singing helps, start singing a song. Its great makes people laugh.

Yeah I can understand the being a bit shark shy! Its one of the reasons I sup instead of prone. I do like to surf with at least one or two prone surfers that way I know if there is a shark it will definitely have a go at them before it bothers with me.

On another note I have spent a bit of time in north NSW the last year and I have to say the vibe in the water is really good! I am always respectful and don't paddle into crowds ( left the crowded points to themselves) and overall had a lot of fun waves and some nice friendly chats, good times

While we are on the subject of kooks in the water. In my experience its not the watercraft that's the problem it's the kooks that use them.
Seriously we have so many different characters of humans around us that sometimes you would feel safer with the sharks.
I remember when I was a short boarder surfing with my young nephew & his mate when I heard this loud growl coming from behind us. When we looked we saw a huge guy that looked like a big brown bear coming at us catching a wave. He made us split in all different directions to get out of his way!
This went on for a good half hour & found he was full on scabbing every wave he could & intimidating everyone in his way. My nephews mate looked a little distressed as he commented on the bears attitude.
So I decided to get in front of the big brown bear at the end of our session when a fat swell came in. And sure enough he came at me from behind roaring loudly. By this time the wave had pitched enough to give me a chance at catching it with him bearing down the swell. I could hear he was close to my feet so I then thrashed my feet savagely spraying the crap at his face & I took off on the wave to the shore & I quickly went to the car park & left the beach satisfied he copped a spray & finally missed a wave. Never saw him again?
I'm normally a crap short boarder that doesn't try hard enough & misses a lot of waves. But at times like this something just snaps in my head that makes me go full on at over 100% with zero mistakes to achieve my goal in making them look stupid.

I'm hearing you pumpy, boomerang was alive with big fish, a six footer swam about 15 m from me last week, thankfully heading away from shore. Had to look twice as there were dolphins just prior and thought it was a straggler. ( it wasn't)

Some surfers fear going out by them selves ...thats why he chose your spot .but you made amines by apologies ,

A prone surfer was coming up in his car from a surf zone ,saw me drive down with my SUP ,then he turned around ,introduced himself
and said he was scared at surfing by himself ,we surfed together for 2 hour ,even though he was Bazilian ,He behaved himself .

another surfer waited till i suited up and hit the water before heading out with me ,he was a clown with a cool laugh ..he was from Manly .
and reckon it was cool with only 2 dudes out ,he was like walking in dog **** ,where ever i went ,there he was

Funny how this never is a problem when a surfie chick paddles up next to you and smiles, I usually end up having a kook session trying to hard to impress, lol.

Greystoke this is sooo true, Last summer we had two spunky young ladies join the crew at the local peak for about two weeks, the waves were semi decent 2-3; 3-4 foot days with occasional semi barrels. The girls were wearing hot little outfits, sometimes g string bottoms. Well wasn't all the hard core locals trying to give them every wave possible. It was so funny. Even the grumpy bastard in the line up (you know who you are) was falling over backwards to give the girls a wave. They were decent semi sponsored. But it was hilarious. Even the wives started to come and wait on the sand for their husbands to come in, by the second week. Classic.

Agree with that Zeusman. When I get annoyed I just keep my mouth shut & try to work other ways around the situation.
Sometimes it will mean that I will have to move on to another break unfortunately. I do this when I am really peed off!
And sometimes moving on can come to my advantage giving me more waves or smaller but better quality waves or makes me practice different techniques in different surf.
It's better having an ok session than wasting a session getting into a s#%t fight with someone.
